I could see that being played in the Wheel of (not always) Casey spot, but not as a regular weekend show. It could plausibly be August 26, 1978, but IIRC they aired that last year, and if they were going to rerun that wouldn’t it have been last week?

Is XM the 70's allowing guest hosted episodes? 9-2-78 would be a great show to hear, and 8-26-78 would be slightly out of date.

Sometimes guest hosted episodes are played as Thursday night "Wheel of Casey" random picks, but not in the regular weekend slots. Maybe this weekend will be different, but more likely either we'll get a show that would have better fit last week, or it won't be 1978 (recall how last week 1976 was announced on Thursday but 1972 was what actually aired.)

Too bad Premiere doesn't air the guest hosted episodes of "AT40-The 70's" & "AT40-The 80's"-However,they did run episodes hosted by Dick Clark,Gary Owens & Mark Elliot when those folks passed away.

Well, a precedent has been established. Now we know that XM can give guest-hosted weekly shows, in addition to the Wheel Of Casey.

Larry McKay, guest host on the 9/2/78 show, is a pretty fast talker. He definitely has that announcer type of voice but it’s not a voice that draws me in to want to listen to a story like Casey. Still, the program sheet notes that when he worked in Muncie, Indiana, his station was an early subscriber to AT40, and he was now a DJ at KIIS in Los Angeles. It’s pretty cool he got to live his dream of guest hosting AT40.

He was also later on KFI Los Angeles, which being a 50K-watt clear channel station could be heard all over the western US between sunset and sunrise.

Noticed a staff error on the McKay show: Elton John's string of 7 consecutive #1 LPs extended through the fall of 1975, not '74.
Honky Chateau, '72 Don't Shoot Me, I'm Only the Piano Player Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road, both '73 Caribou Greatest Hits, both '74 Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy Rock Of the Westies, both '75
Empty Sky, released in early '75, was a 'from the vaults' US release of John's first (1969) UK album, so it doesn't count. It peaked at #6.
The album that broke the string was Here and There, a live LP released in spring '76. It reached #4. AFAIK, Elton never again scored a #1 LP on Billboard, at least through the 1980s.

Speaking of his “Here And There” album, originally a single disc nine track live album containing songs from US (“Here”) and UK (“There”) shows. The US show is the November Madison Square Garden show that featured John Lennon (his last live appearance). Those tracks weren’t included however. In 1995 the album was expanded to 25 tracks and includes the Lennon tracks. The album went from being a throwaway release to an essential in his catalog.

Will have to look for a copy of the '95 re-release on CD.
