At least if you sit through it to the end you get dessert: a supersized slice of pie.

Looks like June 16, 1979 is on tap for this weekend. Same year as Premiere is doing for their "B" show (6-23-79), but one week earlier.

June 17-18, 2023: Now let’s go back to this week in 1979 - August Darnell - June 16, 1979 I'd forgotten how utterly boring and time-wasting the playing of ALL 3 of the previous week's top songs was.

I was able to listen to part of the 6/16/79 broadcast on SiriusXM yesterday. If you enjoy the end of hour theme from late '78 - '83, you're in luck as the theme is played in full at the end of hours 2 and 3 (not sure about the first hour). Also, for the purists out there who complain about some jingles being edited on SiriusXM broadcasts (among other things ), there were many times in hours 2 and 3 that the "Casey's Coast to Coast" jingle (heard before a commercial break) and the "American Top 40" jingles played coming back from a commercial break are both played back to back on the 6/16/79 re-broadcast.

I may be part of a rare breed, but I enjoy hearing the theme played in full to wrap up the hour. When AT40 aired in the 80s, my station let the theme play out to its end, at the end of each hour, and at show close. (My understanding is not all stations did, and the Premiere rebroadcasts certainly don't.)
The end-of-hour theme from 1978-1983 (really through 1/7/1984) is one of my favorites. 🙂 (Same for the 1984 theme, used through 3/28/1987.)

Fixed it for you: there were many times EVERY TIME in hours 2 and 3 that the "Casey's Coast to Coast" jingle (heard before a commercial break) and the "American Top 40" jingles played coming back from a commercial break are both played back to back The only "glitch" is that as soon as Casey began his outro to the first Archive song, XM skipped to the middle of the end of hour theme, so we missed his Archive song outro and his end of first hour close out. I suspect that was a computer burp and not an intentional edit of the show. It would have been very odd for that to have been the only edit, if it was in fact an edit of some sort.

In very badly edited form. Not only were two extras cut out ("The Twist" and "Tossin' and Turnin"), but one charting song, "Tryin' To Get the Feeling" (at #10), was missing. And they left in Casey's tease for the story about "Waltzing Matilda", but the story itself was deleted.

Is this the closest that the Wheel has ever come to the current date?

SXM has started replaying that top 1000 show they must be proud of. I don't know what this means for Wheel, the regular show or the usual Noon EDT Independence Day airing of the July 11th premiere. Of course they are too d**n lazy to update their website to tell us.
