For today's completely useless trivia fact, May 6, 1978 is the only show during Casey's first run in which the numbers of the chart date lined up in a way that they counted up (5/6/78)...I'll see myself out now.

And the ultimate countdown date would have to fall under the Ryan Seacrest era: April 3, 2021 (4/3/21). “Driver’s License” by Olivia Rodrigo has the distinction of being #1 on that chart.

For a "wrap-around" date, in which both Casey and Ryan have countdowns: March 21, 2009 (3/21/09). #1's were:
AT20 HAC: You Found Me The Fray AT20 AC: I'm Yours Jason Mraz AT40: Gives You Hell All-American Rejects

May 20-21, 2023: Now let’s go back to this week in 1976 - Gary Wright - May 15, 1976 After nearly two years on the air on Chicago's WDHF-FM (starting in June 1974), the station adjusted AT40's Sunday morning start time, from 9am to 7am. The 5/15/76 show was the first earlier broadcast and it ran nearly 100% commercial-free, with only station jingles played between countdown segments. I still have my off-air recording and, at the show's start, the board operator provided the time, "it's 7 o'clock." And the deejay that followed the show's closing quickly faded AT40's theme, aired a station ID and announced "it's 9:28" before starting his first record. Gotta be one of the shortest broadcasts of a complete AT40 countdown. Of course, the show was loaded with great songs so the recording was worth preserving.

The following week did the normal ad load resume, or did the two-hour time switch cause a lot of ad clients to permanently bail? Ads slowly returned over several weeks. The station had a new PD and likely upped the sponsorship ante as many other changes - including new call letters - were on the horizon. Within a year, AT40 was running a full 3 hours (which hadn't happened before) and pushed out many ads. And they never changed the Sunday 7am start time.

I have fond memories of 1976, as I became a regular listener of AT40, as the show was broadcast by a station out of Gainesville, Ga (just on the edge of the Atlanta area). Of course, by then the show was the polished professional sounding presentation we all know--it has been interesting to go back and listen to the first 5 years of shows to see how it changed until that time.
