Nice surprise in this week's 1971 show with several 1950s/60s extras left in ("My Way", "Honky Tonk", "Soul and Inspiration"). One oldie from the original show, Jimmy Clanton's "Just a Dream" (from 1958) was deleted (from the first airing; apparently it was heard in the show played at noon.)

If you have Sirius XM then there may be not much need to look for the Premiere B show, as it's from the same year though one week behind. But even with no extras in the original show to delete, SXM somehow couldn't resist at least one screwup: #35 and 34 were played in reverse order, at least in the first airing.

It was the same poor edit on the airing at noon today (Saturday). Not only did they play #35 in the slot for #34 and vice versa, they played Casey's introduction about Maurice White of E,W,& F AFTER playing #35, two whole songs after playing the E, W, & F song. At least SXM left in all three listener questions this week.

1974 may have been almost due (last played in early March), but couldn't they have waited a couple more weeks so they wouldn't have featured that year at the same time as Premiere?
Though this show does include a one-week AT40 entry, Guess Who's "Star Baby". And props to Kenny Gamble, Leon Huff, MFSB, and the Three Degrees: this week we get both countdowns with "TSOP" at #1.

That's two weeks in a row where SXM featured the same year as Premiere, yet the week before. And right before that, they played 1971, which was the show before Premiere's offering the following week, paired with 1978.
With the next Premiere show being 1973, and seeing it was played 4 weeks ago on SXM, I'm thinking that short streak will end.

5/1/1971 would be a nice offer from XM.

5/1/1971 would be a nice offer from XM. Are you referring to the actual chart from May 1, 1971--because the special countdown of the Top 40 pop artists won't be played by SiriusXM.

My mistake. Thank You. That's why I never heard it. Cross that week on my list.

Right -- the 5/1/71 regular countdown was the last show that aired a week early in those first 10 months of AT40's run (was aired the weekend of April 24, 1971). Then that special was played the week of May 1st, then the 5/8/71 show went the week of May 8th.

At least the 1978 show last weekend coincided with Premiere's 'B' show rather than the 'A'. Rare that you get the same year on both networks, but at least the two seem to avoid playing the same actual show, which tended to happen every now and then until about 2012 or so (a few times the same show even got played the same weekend--I think the last time that happened may have been in July 2010 with the 7/29/78 show?).

For some strange reason the segment with #33--Uptown Festival by Shalamar/ #32--Whodunit by Tavares got skipped (maybe the computer didn't like those songs). This kept Casey from giving out the information regarding the Jackson 5 starting off their career with 5 #1's on the Soul chart.
Shortly, afterwards at #29--the wrong version of Got To Give It Up by Marvin Gaye was played (part 2--shoulda been Part 1). I think this was a mistake by the engineer that put the show together way back in 1977 (I remember thinking this was odd back when I first heard the show some 40 plus years ago).
