SXM also left in the Cat Stevens story regarding “The First Cut Is The Deepest”. On a previous airing of this show it cut the whole story and jumped right to “Now here’s Cat’s fellow countryman Rod Stewart with his version”.

One more thing about this show (March 12, 1977)--Casey says that Paul McCartney moves up 5 to #5 with Maybe I'm Amazed (actually the song was at #15) and would only reach #10 during it's entire chart run.
I know there were errors of this kind when Casey did the show 'live' during the first couple of years of AT40--but I am surprised to find this kind of error when he pre-recorded all of the talk segments.

Glad they skipped the Top 3 re-cap but a very poor edit to get into the countdown.

Whoever edited this did a horrible job, the beginning, bumpers are cut off, intros are faded into. Really bad. I have to check to see if these are the same edits from the 2012 airing.

If they were going to cut out the top 3 recap, then they should have had a smoother edit leading into #40. Instead it went right into the "American Top 40" jingle--right after Casey welcomed listeners into the show by name. Not only that, but one of the Archives extras was cut ("Love Train" by the O'Jays, which 70s on 7 plays a lot.)
The only two things that SXM did right were leaving in Casey's "where are they now?" story about the Mamas and the Papas, even though their hits were in the 60s, and using the Gloria Gaynor intro for a show that ends with her on top.

The 2012 airing had much smoother edits, the show started after the first commercial break, the bumpers were cleaner or omitted completely for an SXM bumper, and “Love Train” was left in. Whoever edited it this time just hacked it up.

Thank you to whoever edited the show from this week end--they actually left in two extras: Neil Diamond's I Am I Said (1971) and (gasp) Shop Around By the Miracles from 1961.

Apr. 4-5, 2020: Now lets go back to this week in 1973 - Bill Withers, March 31,1973 Unless time constraints would have precluded management from doing it on such short notice, I'm surprised SiriusXM didn't replace that introduction, being that Mr. Withers has sadly passed away. Or maybe they left it in to honor him. I don't know.

Since he passed away they have had artists do the intros leading into the show. As far as I am concerned they could just use a generic voice saying Let's go back to this week in 1973 as Casey Kasem counts down the hits (or something similar).

Two items of interest about the show from March 31, 1973--
1)Casey says the song @#21--Cisco Kid by War--is a gold single in it's 5th week on the Billboard chart but it does not have a gold symbol next to it on the chart.
2)In a full page ad in the March 31, 1973 issue of Billboard, Watermark is trying to sign up more stations noting that AT40 is now in stereo since February 24, 1973 show. I know there has been a debate of when the show went stereo but that should settle the matter.

It was probably chosen before we learned of his passing yesterday, but still a notable coincidence. Plus this is the first 1973 standalone since January from either Sirius XM or Premiere.
