Did they use a 'remix' version of "Do You Love Me?" by The Countours during its 8 week run beginning on the 7/2/1988 show? It is not on the 45 or the release version. Nor it is on the "Dirty Dacing" soundtrack. I did find it on the "Sleepwalkers" soundtrack CD, but a shorter version. Yes, I seem to recall they did play the remix version during its entire Top 40 run. Which makes absolutely no sense, since the 1988 single release was the same as the original 1962 version, and the same as what was on the Dirty Dancing soundtrack (and was the only version I ever heard on the radio aside from on AT40).

Sounds like AT40 only played the full-length commercial single version of Shannon's "Let The Music Play" once. The rest of the time they played either an edited version, or the album version (which, amazingly, is the shortest of them all).
The commercial 45 version of Laid Back's "White Horse" was never played, due to several occurrences of the word "b**ch" (AT40 chose to air the censored promo version instead).
I'm only about halfway through the chart run of "Self Control" by Laura Branigan, but so far only the album version (or at least the version that now appears on the Self Control CD) has been played. The commercial single had a rather awkward edit in the intro, with the guitar solo excised (so basically you go from the slow buildup directly into Laura's vocals). I don't think I ever heard that version on the radio, and can't for the life of me figure out why Atlantic Records put it on the commercial 45 (perhaps to spur sales of the album instead?).
Correction: Apparently there were two different pressings of the "Self Control" single. One had the edited intro (that's the copy I own), and one was intact (although faded slightly earlier than the LP version).

Switching gears, does anyone know if HOTEL CALIFORNIA by the Eagles was ever played in its radio edit form where they cut the rest of Joe Walsh's guitar work and go from guitar riff verse 1 to guitar riff verse 5, if u understand what I'm talking about. Thanks.

I noticed on several shows AT40 has played these following versions:
Madonna - Open Your Heart (Remix Edit) Madonna - Dress You Up (Remix Edit) Shalamar - Dancing In The Sheets (Remix Edit) New Order - True Faith (7" Morning Sun Mix Edit) Giant Steps - Another Lover (Remix Edit) Information Society - What's On Your Mind (Remix Edit) Sheena Easton - The Lover In Me (Remix Edit) Sheena Easton - What Comes Naturally (Remix Edit) INXS - What You Need (Promo Edit - unavailable commercially) Phil Collins - Don't Lose My Number (Promo Edit) Peter Gabriel - Sledgehammer (Promo Edit)
And most of these are HARD to find.

I've read that there were two singles released of the Charlie Daniels Band's "The Devil Went Down to Georgia", one using the term "son of a gun" and the other saying SOB. Last week SXM played a countdown with the "gun" version. Did AT40 ever play the other? I've heard both on the radio in varying stations and programs.

The clean "gun" version was the only one AT40 ever played.

Back when South Bend's U93 did their Top 93 of 1984, they used a version of "Self Control" where she repeated everything twice - in the verses anyway (i.e "Oh the night, oh the night, is my world, is my world...") I was wondering if this was an official version of the song or if it was just something the station improvised.

^ Speaking of repeating everything twice... is that an official version of your post, or something ProBoards just improvised?

A couple of examples I've heard recently where AT40 played the single or remix version, not the album:
The 10/20/79 show includes the Knack's "Good Girls Don't", of which they played the re-recorded single version with the line "When she puts you in your place", which replaced the line "When she's sittin' on your face" from the album version. I'm guessing that in 1979 most stations played the single version, but when I hear the song on the radio today it's the raunchier album track that gets played.
(Interestingly, on the other hand, on that same AT40 Casey played the longer, album version of "My Sharona", which I don't think he usually did otherwise.)
Several 1987 shows I've heard have the radio remix of Whitesnake's "Here I Go Again", with more keyboards. I don't know if that was the actual 45 version, but it's not the album one.

The Whitesnake remix was released on the 45. Loved the version then, despise it now!
Some of the more interesting promo versions I've heard on AT40: Promo Edit of Led Zeppelin's "Fool In The Rain" where it cuts out during the solo and the promo edit of Boston's "A Man I'll Never Be" which is one of their most underrated tracks and, IMHO, Brad Delp's best vocal performance.

I'm wondering if they ever played the full album versions of songs like "Against the Wind" by Bob Seger or "Never Knew Love Like This Before" by Stephanie Mills? I unfortunately didn't start listening to the show until the following year and I'm just wondering.
The reason I ask is because, to the best of my memory, if a song was in the countdown long enough usually they'd play the longer album version at least once. For example, I remember hearing the full "Hard To Say I'm Sorry" by Chicago during one of its weeks at No. 1; and I'm sure they played all of Asia's "Only Time will Tell" at least once.
Anyone know?

I was always surprised that AT 40 would play album versions of songs during the three hour shows of 1978, when time was becoming a huge factor. Two very noticeable examples were With A Little Luck by Paul McCartney & Wings and Kiss You All Over by Exile.
Now, I much prefer those album versions over the single versions, so I'm glad they chose them. But it surprises me that they would chop up other songs and then turn around and play long versions of songs when shorter ones existed.
The long version of Kiss You All Over was driving me crazy in that I could not find one to download and was wondering if it actually existed or something I imagined! I finally found a You Tube video that had the entire version.

I recall he seldomly played the very rare (and truly horrible) 45 edit of BEST OF MY LOVE by The Eagles,(anyone remember that version?) but that could be Premiere just using the LP edition on the remaster. Not sure about FOLLOW YOU FOLLOW ME by Genesis, as the 45 version is completely re-mixed differently than the LP version, but when this was a LDD on one show, he played the LP version.
Also don't recall hearing the true 45 version of SOLITARE by Carpenters on these rebroadcast either.
