That's Nina Blackwood's newly recorded top 40 countdown. She was recording them for Sirius prior to the channel merge. It looked for a while like she was going to stop doing that but I guess not.

Dees just signed with ABC Radio Networks so that could be a reason for Sirius XM to change as could their recent decision to let the former MTV VJs staff 80s on 8 all the time (Rick Stacy is now on the 90s on 9) Dees was with ABC Radio Networks in the 1990s until Premiere/Clear Channel bought the rights to the WT40. Premiere/Clear Channel dropped Dees in 2004 or 2005 and he went to Dial at some point after that. Check www.rick.com for more details on the new agreement with ABC Radio Networks I just checked Sirius.com and their site is outdated. The entry on "Big 80s Big 40" on the 80s page there was there before the channels merged, so don't expect the show to broadcast in place of Rick Dees WT40 unless you heard Nina or one of the other DJs specifically mention it this week. "Big 80s Big 40" was Sirius's answer to both AT40 and WT40 before the channels merged. The Xmradio.com page for 80s on 8 also says nothing about "Big 80s Big 40" and WT40 is not scheduled there this week (instead they don't even show a DJ scheduled for that time slot) The 90s broadcast of the WT40 is scheduled as usual for Sunday at 9am Eastern on the 90s on 9 page. I did see that Martha Quinn is scheduled to be on air on Sunday just before AT40 broadcasts. If she mentions AT40 being on next, I hope she'll say something about being a guest host for AT40 on September 4, 1993.

It appears Dees is indeed gone. The 80's channel did not air the show this morning at all.

Before the channels merged, Sirius's 70s 80s and 90s all had countdown shows hosted by one of the DJs on that station. I never heard the 70s countdown, but listened to part of "Big 80s Big 40" once and it was simply a countdown of the 40 biggest hits from a given week in the 1980s with some discussion of the songs and their artists. The show didn't flow as well as AT40 with Casey and Nina provided lots of gossip about what the artists are doing now (more like Ryan Seacrest does with AT40 today).
BTW: I did hear the Sirius 90s countdown once and didn't like it at all. The problem is that they counted down the top 15 of a given week in the 90s at the same time as the top 15 that actual week.
I do hope that Rick Dees will broadcast once again on the 80s and the schedule for next week has the show in its regular time and place. Whether or not they remove the show from next weeks schedule will tell us more about the future of the WT40 on the 80s.

Man. Drop the show just before the year enders were to begin?? sheesh, what bs. What irritates the most is if you want to drop the show, whatever. But announce to people you are doing so they don't tune in thinking they are going to hear something they aren't.

No Rick Dees on 90s on 9 today either. No announcement, no mention so far.

The 70s countdown show on Sirius (Totally 70s Satellite Survey) was excellent; it counted down the top 30 from Billboard and was hosted by Dave Hoeffel, who after the Sirius-XM merger is now on the 50s channel. Hoeffel did his research, and, as much as I enjoy listening to vintage Casey Kasem countdowns (as do most of us on this board), he provided some historical insight. Nina Blackwood, on the other hand, sounded as if she just showed up in the studio five minutes beforehand and just winged it. Other than some asides to knowing some of the artists from her MTV days, she added very little to the proceedings. And if it wasn't a hit on heavy rotation on MTV or if the countdown was from a year before or after her run as VJ, she sounded very disinterested. She admitted several times on the air that she didn't even know or remember many of the songs. Plus, the countdown switched from the Billboard top 40 to something else; I suspect her producers just made up a list. After that, R&B and C&W hits were very much marginalized. In short, her countdown had very little integrity. I'm sure Nina Blackwood is a nice person, but if Siriius-XM replaces Rick Dees, Casey Kasem or any other vintage countdown to exhume her countdown show, it would be a step backward. I'm guessing as a standard Sirius-XM disk jockey, where she is called upon to speak after three or four records, she'd be servicable.

From the looks of things, the 90's show this week was from 1994.

Speaking of the Sirius Big 80s Big 40, I wonder why in the world they asked Nina to host it. If they had to use an MTV VJ, why then not ask Martha Quinn to do it? She has a much nicer sounding voice, more enthusiasm, and more experience-I remember her doing the weekly countdowns on MTV in the 1980s and she substituted for Shadoe on AT40 on Sept 4, 1993. I don't ever remember Nina doing a countdown except part of the year end countdown one year and only because it aired during her shift and all VJs took turns.
Martha's hosting a countdown would have been something she could easily voice track and, besides, she should have a more prominent role-after all she's the best of the 4 former MTV VJs currently on Sirius.
