Heres another thread that has disappeared since the "Proboards fire" in Dallas, so I'll restart it:
Rick has returned to XM after a 1year hiatus?!? I believe it was last year when Ricks regular weekly top40 shows were heard on XM KIIS. Prior to that you'd hafta go back to '02? or '03? Whenver it was that he was fired from KIIS fm and his morning show was gone from XM & KIIS FM L.A. And of course you could hear RIck at XM's inception, as back then they simply simulcasted KIIS FM L.A. Enough background......Rick is back, premiered today on XM 8 at 9am w/ the show from, I'm guessing June 4th 1988, as RIck mentions they are about 2 weeks away from the start of summer during the show. Another show will premiere tommorow on XM 90s on 9 at 9am.
And you can hear this weeks current CHR chart on XM Hitlist (ch 30) at the close of the weekend, sunday night at 9pm. Why not air the CHR/Rhythmic version also, and the HotAC version?

Todays show on 90s on 9 is from 6/6/92. Thanks for the info! My DirecTV guide says it is from 6/7/88. Go figure! I'm loving the addition to Rick Dees on the weekend! Out of curiosity, are cue sheets archived anywhere to Weekly Top 40?

It appears this week's 90's show is from 1993. Upon further investigation, it was 6/13/93.

Before leaving to celebrate Father's Day, I heard the beginning of the Weekly Top 40 and noticed that Rick omitted songs by Dr. Dre and Green Jelly. I wish the company that produced the shows wouldn't have done that but, instead, sent instructions to the stations broadcasting the show, how they could have done so, much like the way AT40 did in the late 1980s and early 1990s.
Even though I don't particularly like Dr. Dre, I feel that a countdown show should play all songs on the portion of the chart they claim to represent. That's why i prefer Casey's Top 40. I have the copy of Casey's Top 40 for the same week as the Weekly Top 40 (6/12/93) and am going back to listen to see how Casey handled those songs that Rick announced the title to but did not play. I recorded the Weekly Top 40 and, if those songs are played on CT40 that week, I will dub them into the MP3 of the Weekly Top 40 just so I'll have a WT40 show for that week with all songs that Rick announced, played as well.
Note: The Weekly Top 40 continued to do this for several years afterward. I have a cassette copy of the Weekly Top 40 2000 Year End Countdown and I remember Rick announcing the title of Dr. Dre's song "Forgot About Dre" at some point between #91-#98 but not playing it.

Rick generally used: 1983-84 - Cashbox 1985-June 1995 - R&R (occasionally songs were switched around in August-September 1994, as songs like "Wild Night" by John Mellencamp and "Can You Feel The Love Tonight" by Elton John hit #1) July 1995-June 1997 - An unpublished chart similar to R&R, but favouring rhythmic songs July 1997-2004 - Back to R&R, but often with songs switched around/removed (usually rap songs were removed or not mentioned) 2005-present - Unpublished chart based on airplay from affiliate stations

Maybe you didn't like it, but it was probably this philosophy that allowed his show to bypass both Casey's Top 40 and American Top 40 as the most heard nationwide and/or worldwide by this 1993 timeframe. It was also the precursor to the HAC show, this type of a program allowed not only Top 40 stations to air it, but Adult leaning Hot AC or CHR stations to air it.

When I would record the shows back in the 90s, I would always 'edit' in the songs that Rick would skip over so I was VERY familiar w/ the songs he did not play. If it wasn't played, usually an extra was played so the show would time out properly. Sooo, in order to include the omitted songs, the extra would have to be 'optional' just as the actual song would have to be an 'optional' track.
As for the end of the year shows, like the top100 of 2000. Starting around the turn of the 90s, (cant say if it happened in '89 '88 '90 but defintly by '91) Rick HAD to omit songs from the end of the year survey in order for those shows to time out properly. Rick would traditionally play the 'entire' song, UNLIKE Casey Kasem shows which would edit the songs on the top100, often omitting entire verse's in order to fit all 100 songs in.

Any idea what date was run this morning on the 97 show? I didn't turn on Directv which list the full date, and both my boombox XM model and the car radio only lists "06/97"
