There is something new on the 6/7-6/8 weekend airing on American Top 20 with Casey Kasem.
Its the feature we all dread from the current American Top 40. Its the 'No Nuttin.' This meaning two songs are played in a row with the show host not speaking between those two songs.
It is used in most segments on American Top 20. The first one is between songs #20 and #19. You only hear the #19 jingle between the two songs. Casey will recap the #20 and #19 songs at the end of the #19 song.
If the 'No Nuttin' is where the next song is an AT20 extra, you will hear this. The American Top 20 jingle, "I'm Casey Kasem from Hollywood...." then the extra is played.
I never really enjoyed the 'No Nuttin.' I hope its only a one week thing, but I expect this will remain on AT20 for the rest of the run.
I haven't heard the whole AT10 this weekend yet. However, I don't think the 'No Nuttin' was used on AT10 this weekend. It has been used on those AT10 Xmas rerun shows.

I have not heard either show this weekend, however if AT10 is still as usual, I would say this is the coming of the end for AT20. Either that, or doing it this way requires fewer voicetracks, which makes it easier on Casey. It would be tougher to do this with AT10 with the abundant number of extras and spotlight songs.
Regardless, I have predicted AT20's demise for a while now, and I feel this could very well be the beginning of the end. The show seems to lose affiliates every week, and I'm sure at some point down the road Premiere will simply offer AT40 Hot AC to the remaining affiliates. Premiere does not seem to be concerned with retaining affiliates and marketing Casey's shows, and the little focus they put on Casey seems to be on AT10 and the 70s and 80s show. AT20 could have a year or two left, or it could be less, but I know the end is unfortunately coming into sight. And I'm sure that the time will come where Casey will be ready to simply do one show per week, if that time has not already arrived.

I heard one of the no nuttin's on AT20 today. It's really sad not to hear Casey intro and outro a song like he's always done. I see a couple of possible reasons for this:
1) The producers think this is more "hip" sounding and is trying to help AT20 become "hip". 2) Casey needed to do less voicetracking and this was the way to do it. Perhaps doing two shows is too much anymore.
Unfortunately I would have to agree with Brett in the post above.

After listening to AT20, all I can say is that if this is the way it is going to be, the show is never going to be the same.
The thing that bugged me the most was the sweeper before an extra. The cut of Casey saying "This is Casey Kasem in Hollywood..... Extra" sounds of a Casey from years and years ago and does not match the current sound of his voice at all.
I will continue to listen to the show, but I do not like the new format at all. If they are doing it in order to make things easier on Casey, I understand, but if they are doing it to make the show sound 'hipper', then it is a very big mistake. The appeal of AT20 is that it is not the same as all the other shows.

Oh, I really hope this is just for one week. If they really think it's hip, replace the p with a t and add an s before the h and you get what it is.
A bit of good news with this particular show though: a shortened version of a letter I sent in in mid-March is this week's LDD, albeit a remembrance of a death in my family.

The 'No Nuttin' was only on AT20. Casey Kasem intros and outros each song on June 7-8, 2008 AT10 program.

Either they're trying to make AT20 a little 'hipper' to help appeal to those stations who want a show more like AT40 Hot AC or Randy Jackson - or - this is Premiere showing us that it won't be long until AT20 rides off into the sunset... Either way, whoever made this decision does NOT understand the true appeal of a Casey Kasem countdown.

Why would a song not being intro'd or outro'd be Premiere telling us the show is headed out the door? The AT10 Christmas shows do this every year. I know it isn't necessarily the same thing, but it isn't like this is an uncommon practice in radio. It isn't like XM radio decade channels where you go a whole hour and hear the host once, maybe twice.

While this may be common practice in radio, it's not common for Casey. The Christmas shows are the only exception, and Casey's been doing this for nearly 40 years. To me, I think it's being done because Casey doesn't want to or can't do 2 shows a week anymore. If he wants to just do one show a week, that's fine because he should be able to do what he wants.

Agreed. Radio has been this way for years now and Casey has yet to make a change. Unless Premiere is forcing it as a way to "hip" up the show. And if Casey wishes to go down to one show per week, I think it's a no brainer that AT10 is the stronger of the two shows in terms of popularity, appeal, and affiliates. Unfortunately, I prefer AT20.

Good to hear the show is here to stay, but the tweaked format still stinks.

FYI- the No Nuttin continues this weekend (June 14/15) with the Mike Kasem guest hosted show.

And perhaps the worst part was that even though Mike Kasem hosted, the extra sweepers voiced by Casey were still used, giving the illusion he was there. Then, at the end of the extra, Mike would announce. I did not like that. It almost sounded, dare I say it, Rick Dees-ish. All that aside, Mike did a wonderful job with AT20 this weekend.
