Interestingly though, one of the thoughts they had was to have Casey do AC (and probably eventually HAC, too) shows only in 1988, and hire someone else (Shadoe, assumedly) to do the top 40. First point is: I don't believe there were any thoughts ever about bringing up a different format of the show. That's why Casey finally left and started a new project for a brighter future. And second there was no format we know todate as "HOT AC" back in the 80's. So that kills your theory in this point, Scott.

It clearly shows up that Westwood One created the show(s) as it still runs until todate. Something ABC could never do back in the old days.

A year and a half and still no answer...LOL! Paul, I can see you're the king of man that can hardly give up on something, right ? Probably that makes it for the two of us ........ Do you have an automatic schedule that brings up your old topics all along a year later ?

Somebody mentioned it above here - so let me explain it this way: What do we remember when it comes to Shadoe Stevens ? And what does the "ordinary" Radio Listener remember on Shadoe Stevens ? NOTHING. GONE. NEVER EXISTANT. 6 and half years of missing history when it comes on AT40. Somebody called them the "lost years" of AT40, because Casey continued with his show under a different name and network, but was recognized by the audience as AT40 ( because it was hosted by Casey ).
It's not a question of like or dislike on Seacrest. It's a question of talent and personal brand of the host. In a time when pure music is on the rise and hosts are out of trend, you have to have another profile than Seacrest to be remembered in - let's say about 10 years. When I listen on today's "AT40" and don't look at the display of my computer, I don't know if there is Seacrest, Hollywood Hamilton or any other stylish and trendy guy on some local "CHR" radio station. Even Dees has his own style to be remembered.
But you can print my prediction on AT40 and Seacrest and put it out in about 5 years. Then we'll see .....

It sounds like you just dont like AT40 now because Casey Kasem is no longer hosting the show. I would explain it that way: If you put some brown water into an empty Coke bottle, do you have that famous soft drink anyway ?? Of course not and that's that big mistake what CLear Channel made with the so called "Handover" to Seacrest. That show will never be "AT40" again, no matter what it might be called. If you and I are talking about "AT40", we think of Casey ( and eventually Shadoe Stevens ). That's all. So eventually Casey made a mistake himself, by selling the brand name "AT40" to Clear Channel. Seacrest is just a temporary phenomenon, a product of today's youth culture, not really a radio talent. As fast as his star rised due to that whole "American Idol" think, as fast his star will fall within a few years. I will bet with everyone out here: If he's still healthy and well, Casey will be doing radio even then, when almost nobody is remembering who Seacrest is and where he's come from. Bet !!

Elliott has his own qualitys. That's why he's still around as the voice of Disney. The only one of two WW1 guesthosts who can match the show for Casey. But of course not as close as CVD on the classic AT40's.
David Perry was not that bad. He was just a little "over-used", but perfect for the AC outlets, since he was an AC PD himself.
There are still 2 steps below Perry as a guest host: One is Ed McMann, the other is well known as the host of the programme that calls itself today as "AT40". Both of them are completely untalented, selfish, and trying to sound like Casey, but with a "modern" touch. This will never work ! Never !
