Because the episode will be from the year 1981, I probably will not recognize many songs. I remember hearing an episode from that year in 2012 (I think that it was from September of 1981), and there were many that I had never heard before. I think that there were about 6 or 7 songs to wait before I heard one that I knew: "Super Freak" by Rick James. Still, I liked a lot of the songs that I heard. One was called "You Could Take My Heart Away". Sometimes, I think about why I never hear it on the radio (I may have to request it one day). Other songs I heard and liked were called "Don't Give It Up" by a singer named Robbie Patton, "Cool Love" by Pablo Cruise, and "I Could Never Miss You" by a singer named Lulu. One more song, called "Draw Of The Cards", sounded different. Since that day, I have viewed the video, and it gives me some fear! There were so many songs from that episode that I ponder in why I have never heard them. All years have a similar effect for me, but 1981 is probably the biggest case for me of the decade of the 1980's. When I first heard a flashback show from 1981 (back in 2001 or so), I had never heard "Cool Love' by Pablo Cruise. It's now one of my favorite songs. One of the problems with 1981 is, like you said, we just have never heard. Many of these songs have the bad luck of being in the "Yacht Rock" era of AT 40 from 1980 to mid 1982 that just do not seem to fit in with the remainder of the 80's. While I will always love the shows from mid 1982 onward, just because they were the shows I grew up with, I love it when we have pre "Don't You Want Me" shows airing from the 80's. There are good songs out there just waiting to be heard by a new audience. By the way, if you do not know who Lulu is, check out her number one, "To Sir With Love", from 1967. The song is just absolutely stunning and one of the greatest songs in pop history, IMO. "To Sir With Love" was a great song. I listened to it a few minutes ago. Also, "Cool Love" reminds me of a song that Journey would perform. It is unfortunate that many songs, even some that appeared rather high in the charts, are not heard on the radio very often. I think it is the case that you mentioned: some songs may not appear attached to the other songs later in the decade. On this week, we will hear some of the songs that were popular in the summer of that year (and I am sure that some are still popular today).

I did not listen to a large amount of the 70's episode of American Top 40 for this week. I will try to listen to some of the songs that I do not know so that I can give information about them. To be honest, I just do not recognize the titles of many of them. Here are some of the songs from that episode: July 24, 1976
40. C'MON MARIANNE- Donny Osmond- I will have to research this song. 37. SARA SMILE- Daryl Hall & John Oates- This is a nice slow song. I think it was one of their first big hit songs. I read that another song from them called "She's Gone" appeared in the charts in 1976, as well as an earlier year. 34. SILLY LOVE SONGS- Paul McCartney & Wings- This was a good song, as well as a classic. 32. A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN- Walter Murphy & The Big Apple Band- I have heard this instrumental on other episodes of American Top 40. I want to listen to it again. 31. SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL- Aretha Franklin- I have only heard part of En Vogue's version of this song. This is another that I want to hear again. 30. I'D REALLY LOVE TO SEE YOU TONIGHT- England Dan and John Ford Coley- This is one of my favorite songs on this list! There are only about three songs from them that I have heard, but I like them. 28. BABY I LOVE YOUR WAY- Peter Frampton- This is one of my favorite songs from Peter Frampton. It reminds me of a cloudy day. For some reason, some songs make me think of different classifications of days. 22. YOU'LL NEVER FIND ANOTHER LOVE LIKE MINE- Lou Rawls- I like his voice in this song. It sounds deep and enticing. I have heard a story on American Top 40 about Lou Rawls. If I am correct, he was involved in a vehicle accident which hurt Rawls profoundly. 20. MORE, MORE, MORE- Andrea True Connection- This was a really good dance song. I also like the song "Steal My Sunshine" from Len, which used a portion of this song. I think that the person named Hervard mentioned this in his review. 18. TURN THE BEAT AROUND- Vicki Sue Robinson- I don't think that I have heard this song completely. I do not recall hearing the version from Gloria Estefan. 17. YOU'RE MY BEST FRIEND- Queen- I want to buy a copy of one of Queen's albums one day. I have wanted to for a time now. They have written many great songs, and this is one of them. 16. TEAR THE ROOF OFF THE SUCKER- Parliament- I used to think that this song was called "We Want The Funk". 12. THE BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN- Thin Lizzy- This is one of two songs that I am familiar with from this band. The other is called "Jailbreak", although I do not know the song texts very well. 11. TAKE THE MONEY AND RUN- The Steve Miller Band- This sounds like the tale of the Bonnie & Clyde of the 1970s. This is one of my favorite songs from the album on which it appears, called "Fly Like An Eagle". 8. DON'T GO BREAKING MY HEART- Elton John and Kiki Dee- Like the song at #30, this is one of my favorites in this countdown. I wonder if Kiki Dee ever had any other songs to appear in the song charts of the United States? 7. GOT TO GET YOU INTO MY LIFE- The Beatles- I know some songs from The Beatles, yet I do not recognize this one by its title. 6. LOVE FIRE- Jigsaw- The only song that I really know from this group is called "Sky High". I may have heard this one on another episode of American Top 40. 5. LOVE IS ALIVE- Gary Wright- I do not recognize this song by its title. 4. MOONLIGHT FEELS RIGHT- Starbuck- Like the previous song, I don't recognize this one. 3. I'LL BE GOOD TO YOU- The Brothers Johnson- As I mentioned earlier, I did not listen to much of this episode. This is yet another song I don't recognize. 2. AFTERNOON DELIGHT- The Starland Vocal Band- This is a great song. 1. KISS AND SAY GOODBYE- The Manhattans- I will listen to this song.
I may update this list to provide a comment about the songs that I am not currently able to. 1976 is one of my favorite years for music of the 1970s. Thank you for reading.

Does it refer to me? I have not heard the show from the year 1980 yet. Were their songs played in a previous episode? Jamie, he may have been referring to FreakyFlyBry, whose post I quoted from a different board (on which he and I would do sort of a double-team critique a few years back). Both he and I do not like "Summer Place" because - well - it's elevator music. Soft rock, like Elton John and Kenny Rogers are one thing, but music that literally tends to make me fall asleep is a horse of a completely different color. I see. Thank you, Hervard. Also, the reviews you gave for the episodes from the years of 1976 and 1982 were good. I agree that the song "Personally" by Karla Bonoff is a really good song. I actually located another album from her called "Restless Nights", and I like the songs on it as well. My favorite is called "Loving You". Hopefully I will locate the album that "Personally" appeared on one day.

For the second time in the episode of the year 1982, I hear the song Hurts So Good by John Mellencamp. For some reason, it sounds slightly out of tune. I have noticed this in other songs in different episodes.

It is interesting how much popularity of music changed in 1980 compared to how it was about a year earlier. It really shows on the following chart from July 12, 1980. These are just some of the songs in the Top 40.
40. MAKE A LITTLE MAGIC- The Dirt Band- This was a great song to kick off this countdown! If I am correct, Nicolette Larson shared the lead vocals on the song. 38. KING OF THE HILL- Rick Pinette and Oak- I think I remember that the lead singer's voice reminded me of the lead singer of REO Speedwagon. I also remember really liking this song. 36. INTO THE NIGHT- Benny Mardones- This song charted not only in this year, but in 1989. I think that it fits well in both years (as well as in 2013). 34. WALKS LIKE A LADY- Journey- I hear many of this group's songs on the radio, but I've never heard this one. 33. CALL ME- Blondie- This song is definitely a classic! 32. DON'T FALL IN LOVE WITH A DREAMER- Kenny Rogers with Kim Carnes- This was a nice duet. 31. LET MY LOVE OPEN THE DOOR- Pete Townsend- I like the melody in this song. It sounds so friendly. 30. SHOULD'VE NEVER LET YOU GO- Neil Sedaka and Dara Sedaka- This was another great duet. 29. CARS- Gary Numan- I've always thought that this song sounds scary. Still, it is good. 28. STAND BY ME- Mickey Gilley- Didn't this song feature a country sound? 27. MISUNDERSTANDING- Genesis- This person really wasted his time! Genesis would continue to have many more hit songs. 26. SAILING- Christopher Cross- I haven't heard this song as often as others that he sings, but it was another nice song. 25. THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK- Meco- Wasn't this an instrumental song? 24. SHE'S OUT OF MY LIFE- Michael Jackson- This song does sound very sad. If I did not hear it on these American Top 40 episodes, I would have thought that it was released later in the 1980's or in the 1990's. 21. LOVE THE WORLD AWAY- Kenny Rogers- I remember giving a round of applause when this song ended. I liked it. 19. TAKE YOUR TIME (DO IT RIGHT)- The S.O.S. Band- The first version I ever heard of this song was on a cassette tape we used to have at home (we may still have it, but I must seek it). I think it was from the movie "Space Jam", but I don't remember correctly. 18. BIGGEST PART OF ME- Ambrosia- I remember liking this song, but I must listen to it again to recall the sound. 13. TIRED OF TOEIN' THE LINE- Rocky Burnette- In a similar case to the song at #18, I don't remember what this song sounded like, but I liked it. 12. AGAINST THE WIND- Bob Seger & The Silver Bullet Band- This is a good song to think about when one looks back on how their life once was, especially if it was somewhat troubled. 11. SHINING STAR- The Manhattans- This song makes me think of the sun trying to break through the clouds after a rainy afternoon/evening. I especially say this because it had been raining throughout the day. It is really beautiful! 10. LET ME LOVE YOU TONIGHT- Pure Prairie League- This was one of my favorite songs on the countdown! Although it can be enjoyed any time of the year, it really makes me think of the summer. 9. LET'S GET SERIOUS- Jermaine Jackson- I don't know a lot of his songs, but I liked this one. 8. MAGIC- Olivia Newton-John- I thought that this song sounded rather dramatic. 7. FUNKYTOWN- Lipps Inc.- This was the last song I heard on the countdown. I think of it when I want to get out of a difficult situation. 6. STEAL AWAY- Robbie Dupree- I do not know this song. 5. CUPID/I'VE LOVED YOU FOR A LONG TIME- The Spinners- I don't know this song either. However, I like their performance "Working My Way Back To You". 4. LITTLE JEANNIE- Elton John- This was a nice, peaceful song. It is one of my favorites from him. The instrumental portion was especially good. 3. THE ROSE- Bette Midler- Unfortunately, I do not believe I know this song. I must research it. 2. IT'S STILL ROCK AND ROLL TO ME- Billy Joel- I have seen the title of this song, and I know other songs by him, but I don't know this one very well. 1. COMING UP- Paul McCartney & Wings- This was one of my favorite songs on the countdown! It filled me with energy and broke the mood of the cloudy/rainy day that I heard the countdown.
Here are some more songs that were not in the American Top 40 for July 12, 1980.
FAME- Irene Cara- This was the first of her songs that I learned. I like it. If I have researched correctly, this song peaked at #4 in September of 1980. I CAN'T LET GO- Linda Ronstadt- I really liked this song. I had not heard it until I listened to it a few minutes ago. DER TEUFEL UND DER JUNGE MANN- Paola- I don't know if this song, performed by a singer from Switzerland, ever charted in the United States. It was released as a single in 1980, according to my cover of the single. The song, about a riddle between a devil and a young man (which is the title in English, or close to it), features a choir of children singing in the chorus, and Paola herself (Paola del Medico, or Paola Felix) singing the verses.
I did not hear the songs in positons #17 to #14 because, for some reason, an episode from 1983 began to play at that point. It switched back to the 1980 edition at song #13. I will try to listen to those songs, which I don't recognize by their titles. Thank you for reading.

I did not hear the first 14 songs from the countdown of the year of 1975 because I was at another location. I will list some of the songs from the week of July 12, 1975 now. Many of them appeared in the last episode from 1975. I'm not familiar with many of the songs, but I will do my best.
40. SWEET EMOTION- Aerosmith- This song is still heard often on the radio. 37. THANK GOD I'M A COUNTRY BOY- John Denver- This lively song can be enjoyed even if one lives in the city. I believe that it was at the No.1 position in June of that year. 29. SISTER GOLDEN HAIR- America- This is one of my favorite songs from them. Actually, I used to think it was released in the 1960s. 27. HEY YOU- Bachman Turner Overdrive- I agree that this song sounded like their other popular song "You Ain't Seen Nothing Yet". 26. EVERY TIME YOU TOUCH ME- Charlie Rich- This was the first song that I heard on this countdown. Although I am not very familiar with him, I have heard the song "The Most Beautiful Girl". 25. SOMEONE SAVED MY LIFE TONIGHT- Elton John- I think that 1975 was one of his best years as far as his biggest hits. He released many songs in this year (as well as others) that remain popular. 22. JIVE TALKIN'- The Bee Gees- This is another great song. 21. ROCKFORD FILES- Mike Post- I have never seen this show, but I like this song! 20. RHINESTONE COWBOY- Glen Campbell- This is certainly a classic, and one of my favorite songs from him. 18. I'M NOT LISA- Jessi Colter- This song reminded me of a person who wants to be someone that they are not. 17. WHY CAN'T WE BE FRIENDS- War- This song has a good message. 15. MIDNIGHT BLUE- Melissa Manchester- I don't remember this song very well, but I think I liked it. 12. LOVE WON'T LET ME WAIT- Major Harris- This song was also good. 11. ROCKIN' CHAIR- Gwen McCrae- In our house, we have a small, old, wooden rocking chair that I used to sit in when I was smaller. It is damaged now, but it brings back memories. This song reminded me of that chair. 10. I'M NOT IN LOVE- 10cc- The narrator really seems to be in emotional pain in this song. I feel bad for him. 9. WHEN WILL I BE LOVED- Linda Ronstadt- This is such a short song (or at least the version I've heard is short). According to my single record of this song, it lasts 2:06. 7. ONE OF THE NIGHTS- The Eagles- I wonder who sings the lead vocals on this song? It is good. 6. PLEASE MR. PLEASE- Olivia Newton-John- If I remember, she sang about a song she does not like; it brings back bad memories for her. 5. MAGIC- Pilot- This was really their only Top 40 song in the United States? I must listen to more of their songs; this one sounds so great! 4. WILDFIRE- Michael Murphy- For some reason, I always associate 1975 (especially in the spring and summer), with long drives in the country and fun at the beach. I think that country music was quite successful in that year, although disco was beginning to become more popular. 3. LISTEN TO WHAT THE MAN SAID- Paul McCartney & Wings- I don't seem to hear this song very much. It is great! 2. THE HUSTLE- Van McCoy- This is a great disco dance song! 1. LOVE WILL KEEP US TOGETHER- The Captain and Tennille- Yes, love has kept them together. This is a classic that cannot be disputed.
Perhaps I will receive an opportunity to listen to the songs I did not know in the future. Others that I heard, but did not list, were also good. Thank you for reading.

Hervard and Jamie, for the amount of soft songs you really liked in the 1980 show, I don't get why you disliked Percy Faith and Kingston Trio so much! Does it refer to me? I have not heard the show from the year 1980 yet. Were their songs played in a previous episode?

Good God, that "Who Shot J.R." song was hilarious. It just sounded so over-the-top...granted, the original Dallas is completely before my time, but I knew the story there even before it was talked about here this week. And that said, given the way the song goes, it's no wonder that it didn't even come close to The 40. If I had been able to watch Dallas (or learned more about it), as I do other shows in this period or before, I would have known more about the event, but I just didn't. I try to learn as much as I can, but it can be difficult. I do look forward to hearing "Who Shot J.R.", along with the rest of the American Top 40 episode from the year 1980. Also, I think the episode from 1982 will sound nice.

Here are some of the songs from the countdown of July 9, 1983
40. TRY AGAIN- Yes, a great song. I don't remember ever hearing it before. 38. CHINA GIRL- David Bowie- This is one of my favorite songs from him. 37. FAITHFULLY- Journey- 36. WHITE WEDDING- Billy Idol- This song reminds me of a very cloudy day. I hear it quite often on the radio. 35. STOP IN THE NAME OF LOVE- Hollies- I don't remember this song very well, however I liked it. 34. ROCK OF AGES- Def Leppard- This song appears on the album Pyromania. Although I bought it in 2006, I haven't listened to the whole album yet. I do like the songs that I have heard such as, "Rock Rock Til You Drop", "Photograph", and "Stagefright". 33. ALWAYS SOMETHING THERE TO REMIND ME- Naked Eyes- I liked so many of the songs on this chart, and this is one of my favorite ones. 32. IT'S A MISTAKE- Men At Work- This seems to be a song that protests against war. I wish this song was played more often on the radio. I may have to request it one day. This song appeared on their album called "Cargo". 31. LET'S DANCE- David Bowie- This song seems to me to posess a slight R & B sound. 30. SAVED BY ZERO- The Fixx- This is one of two songs I know from this group, although they had other hits. I like it. 28. (KEEP FEELING) FASCINATION- The Human League- I learned of this song from a video game I bought in 2003. Whenever I hear it, I think of that game. 27. ROLL ME AWAY- Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band- One thing that I noticed about this list is that there were many songs that I had never heard before. This was one of those songs, and it was great. Many of their songs seem to be about life experiences. 26. WISHING (IF I HAD A PHOTOGRAPH OF YOU)- A Flock Of Seagulls- I have not heard this song as much as their song called "I Ran (So Far Away)". 25. MANIAC- Michael Sembello- Some of these songs are so nostalgic for me. However, they don't remind me of 1983. I would have been too young to remember; so young, that I wasn't born yet. 24. BEAT IT- Michael Jackson- This is one of his biggest hits. The guitar solo was awesome. 23. HOT GIRLS IN LOVE- Loverboy- This was another good song to hear. 22. CUTS LIKE A KNIFE- Bryan Adams- This song just does not sound like the '80s to me. It almost reminds me of songs from the 90's. 20. SWEET DREAMS (ARE MADE OF THIS)- Eurythmics- I hear this song on the radio more than I do their other songs. I saw a small clip of the video to this song, and the lead singer, named Annie Lennox, somewhat scared me. 18. SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY- Donna Summer- Yes, she did. 16. SHE'S A BEAUTY- The Tubes- When I first heard this song, I thought it was from the group .38 Special. 15. 1999- Prince- I don't remember hearing this song a lot in 1999. I don't think I listened to the radio very much. 14. STAND BACK- Stevie Nicks- This is another song that could remind me of the 90's if I had known about it. I have trouble understanding what she is singing about in this song. 13. IS THERE SOMETHING I SHOULD KNOW- Duran Duran- This was another good song. 12. I'M STILL STANDING- Elton John- I heard that Elton John had some personal problems in the past (though I do not have the full knowledge of them). The title sounds positive, though I must listen to the song again. I don't remember it much, but I liked it. 10. OUR HOUSE- Madness- I used to think this song was from the 1970's. It seems to have an R&B feature. 9. DON'T LET IT END- Styx- If I remember well, this song was touching to me. 8. COME DANCING- The Kinks- This is a great party song! It is strange, however, how such a song could have some sad lyrics. When I first heard it, I did not know of the long history of this group. I'm still learning, but I know a little more than before. 6. WANNA BE STARTIN' SOMETHING- Michael Jackson- This was such a great year for him in music (and he had more to come). This is another song I learned from the game I mentioned in the review of song #28. 5. TOO SHY- Kajagoogoo- What a name for a band! This song reminds me of downtown. 4. NEVER GONNA LET YOU GO- Sergio Mendes- I don't know how this one sounds. 3. FLASHDANCE...WHAT A FEELING- Irene Cara- This song makes me feel happy. From the beginning, where it sounds slow, to the end, when it sounds more upbeat, it is enjoyable. 2. ELECTRIC AVENUE- Eddy Grant- Although I wasn't around in 1983, I have heard this song many times on the radio. It makes me want to work. 1. EVERY BREATH YOU TAKE- The Police- Like the previous song, I hear this one quite often on the radio. It is a classic.
These are some more songs from this period. They were not in the Top 40 this week.
JUICY FRUIT- Mtume- Thanks to a video game, I learned of this song. I don't know if it appeared in the top 40. LITTLE RED CORVETTE- Prince- This is one of my favorite songs from him. I think it appeared in the top 40 earlier in 1983. HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE WITHOUT YOU- Laura Branigan- I did not know that someone else recorded this song before Michael Bolton's verson became successful. She was such a great singer and a great person. It would have been nice to see her in concert. I wish she did not die so soon. R.I.P.
Thank you for reading (if you chose to). I like reading the other reviews. They help me to learn more about songs that I like. Also, I have discovered many songs from these reviews that I never would have known about otherwise.

I do not think that I have heard of the song Who Shot J.R. I guess it is related to the show Dallas. A booklet with a CD of songs from 1980 that I have mentions that this show was quite popular that year. The show was quite popular for MANY years and is back with a new series now. The 2nd season just concluded answering the who killed JR question...well, it should have ended that way...the next to last segment revealed all that. Instead it ended with a bunch of what looked to me like random nonsensical stuff going on for 1 segment to finish the season. But the 79-80 season cliffhanger saw someone shoot JR Ewing. No one knew if he was dead or alive, and no one knew who shot him. Then there was a writers strike or something causing the start of the 80-81 season for many shows (including Dallas) to be delayed. Plus, Larry Hagman who played JR Ewing was in a contract renegotiation dispute with Lorimar. Then to even add more flame to the anticipation fire it was episode like 4 or 5 of that season before the FINALLY revealed who it was. That show was the most watched TV show in history until the final episode of MASH came along and beat it. Thanks for the data, paul. I have always wondered what the significance of the event was. I will research the show to find out more about it. The CDs that I mentioned also listed Three's Company, The Jeffersons, and many other shows during those years. Although I am familiar with those two, and I really like watching them, I am not with many others listed. I had an idea that Dallas was well-known past the year 1980, but I don't know that much about this show (though I would like to watch it someday).

I do not think that I have heard of the song Who Shot J.R. I guess it is related to the show Dallas. A booklet with a CD of songs from 1980 that I have mentions that this show was quite popular that year.

The episode from July 9, 1977 was filled with many great songs. I'm sure the summer was nice. I will list some now.
40. HANDY MAN- James Taylor- A nice, peaceful song. 37. SIR DUKE- Stevie Wonder- I did not pay much attention to the lyrics when I first heard the song, but I have always loved the tune. I did not know he mentioned other great musicians until about one year ago. 35. GIVE A LITTLE BIT- Supertramp- The first version I heard of this song was that of The Goo Goo Dolls. I remember it from the year 2004. Both versions are good, but I have not heard The Goo Goo Dolls' version in a few years. 31. LONELY BOY- Andrew Gold- This was a great song! It seems to be a biography about the boy, although somewhat of a sad one. It is also nice to listen to while taking a drive on the highway on a sunny day. 30. BARRACUDA- Heart- This song reminds me not so much of a barracuda, but of a shark. I learned of this song from a video game. 29. I'M YOUR BOOGIE MAN- KC & The Sunshine Band- Disco music was quite popular during these years, it seems. It was probably a song heard at many dance clubs. 28. EASY- The Commodores- So, this person has just had enough of something in his life. Of course it was great to hear the song on a Sunday morning! 26. IT'S SAD TO BELONG- England Dan and John Ford Coley- I don't remember this song well, but it was another good one. I've never heard it before. 23. FEELS LIKE THE FIRST TIME- Foreigner- They really captured the feeling of experiencing something like never before in the lyrics. 22. YOU MADE ME BELIEVE IN MAGIC- Bay City Rollers- The song I recognize the most from them is "Saturday Night", but this was also good. 21. LIFE IN THE FAST LANE- The Eagles- I have not heard this song very often. 17. YOU AND ME- Alice Cooper- I've heard some songs by him, and I have like them. This is another. 15. (YOUR LOVE HAS LIFTED ME) HIGHER AND HIGHER- Rita Coolidge- If I remember, this song had a mixture of rock and slight disco. 14. BEST OF MY LOVE- The Emotions- One thing that I like about listening to this show is that I hear songs that others in my family listened to years ago. They have become songs that make me feel at home. This is one of them. 13. DREAMS- Fleetwood Mac- Is this song about a break-up? I must listen to it again. Recently, I bought a copy of the album it appears on, called "Rumors". I like many of the songs, and one of my favorites was called "I Don't Wanna Know". In fact, it got stuck in my head one day. 12. DO YOU WANNA MAKE LOVE- Peter McCann- He seems to want to get to the point. A great song. 11. I'M IN YOU- Peter Frampton- According to a CD I have, this song reached its peak position in this month of 1977. In my head, I try to sing it in Spanish. 10. MY HEART BELONGS TO ME- Barbra Streisand- I don't know many of her songs, but this one was good. My favorite was "Woman In Love". 9. MARGARITAVILLE- Jimmy Buffett- I read recently that this song was very lucrative. Yes, this was the summer, and I think it was very popular in 1977 (and still is). 8. JET AIRLINER- The Steve Miller Band- When I go on vacation somewhere, this will be one of the songs I will listen to. 7. ANGEL IN YOUR ARMS- Hot- The man she sings about seems to really take her for granted. This group reminds me of another whose song I heard recently: "Want-Ads" by The Honey Cone. 6. GOT TO GIVE IT UP- Marvin Gaye- A great song for a summer party (or any time of the year). 5. I JUST WANT TO BE YOUR EVERYTHING- Andy Gibb- I remember hearing this song on American Top 40 episodes last year. It seemed to be very popular along with "Best Of My Love" by The Emotions 4. GONNA FLY NOW (THEME FROM "ROCKY")- Bill Conti- I have never seen any movies from the Rocky series. I will have to watch them one day. 3. LOOKS LIKE WE MADE IT- Barry Manilow- I really don't know many of Barry Manilow's songs. He seems to sing many ballads. I have heard some more upbeat songs from him that I like. 2. DA DOO RON RON- Shaun Cassidy- This was another good song, although I did not hear much of it. 1. UNDERCOVER ANGEL- Alan O'day- It seems that this person has found new inspiration to fall in love, or that is what I receive from the words. He wrote such a great song. R.I.P.

I will list some songs from the episode I heard on Sunday from 1985. It is one of my favorite years from the 1980's.
40. WAKE UP(NEXT TO YOU)- Graham Parker & The Shot- I really liked this song. I had never heard it before! It almost reminds me of some songs that were recorded from the late 1970's to the early 1980's. 38. YOU SPIN ME 'ROUND (LIKE A RECORD)- I think this was their first successful song in the United States. It is a classic. 35. SHOUT- Tears For Fears- This song, I think, would reach No. 1 in August. This is from a CD of a collection of songs from 1985. 34. NEVER SURRENDER- This was an inspiring song. 32. PEOPLE ARE PEOPLE- Depeche Mode- This song did have a good message. I wonder what the time signature of this song is? 27. 19- Paul Hardcastle- I used to wonder what this song was about. Interesting. 25. FRESH- Kool & The Gang- Another good song. 24. AXEL F- Harold Faltermeyer- I do not remember this song completely, but I don't think it had many words. Also, my CD lists a Faltermeyer as a co-writer of a song called "The Heat Is On". I wonder if this is the same person? 23. TOUGH ALL OVER- John Cafferty and The Beaver Brown Band- This was another song that I had heard for the first time on this show. I know only one other song by this group called "On The Dark Side". I used to think that Bruce Springsteen sang that song. 22. CRAZY IN THE NIGHT- Kim Carnes- Songs about paranoia seem to interest me. In this story, a young girl (about 6 or 7 years old?) or a terrified woman is afraid of an unknown source that she feels will do her harm. 21. EVERYTHING SHE WANTS- Wham!- I do not think that this person should continue to waste his time and money with the person he sings about. 19. IF YOU LOVE SOMEBODY, SET THEM FREE- Sting- I have known this song for a few years now. I like it. Sting would continue to have a very successful solo career. 18. SUDDENLY- Billy Ocean- This was such a heartfelt song. It was beautiful. When I first heard of Billy Ocean, I thought it was the name of a band. I've heard of another band name that sounds like the name of a person (called Pablo Cruise, or something similar). 17. GLORY DAYS- Bruce Springsteen- I never knew what this song was about (besides the chorus). I had not previously listened closely to the words. 15. THE GOONIES 'R' GOOD TONIGHT- Cyndi Lauper- I've never heard this song on the radio. It was pretty good. I normally her songs such as "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" and "Time After Time", both of which are also good. 14. EVERYTIME YOU GO AWAY- Paul Young- This song was originally peformed by Daryl Hall and John Oates. It is still heard on the radio. 13. YOU GIVE GOOD LOVE- Whitney Houston- I hear this song often on a radio station that people in my family listen to. It is a beautiful song. 12. VOICES CARRY- Til Tuesday- I never knew what this song was about. It sounds somewhat scary. 11. WALKING ON SUNSHINE- Katrina and The Waves- Now this song can really put me in a good mood! I used to think it was from the 1960s. 10. IN MY HOUSE- The Mary Jane Girls- This is the only song I know by this group, but it is a good song. 9. THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER- Howard Jones- A nice dance song, although, at some parts, I don't understand what he is singing. I like the songs by him that I've heard, including one called "Everlasting Love". 8. WOULD I LIE TO YOU- Eurythmics- This song reminds me of alternative rock mixed with R & B. 7. EVERYBODY WANTS TO RULE THE WORLD- Tears For Fears- This is the first song by them that I ever knew. The lyrics seem to be about an authoritarian government. The music reminds me of a rainy, cold day, which is what I like about it. It is one of my favorite songs on the countdown. 6. THE SEARCH IS OVER- Survivor- Sometimes, one does not have to go far to find what they have been looking for. I think that is what he is saying. It is such a touching, heartfelt song. 5. ANGEL- Madonna- I like how deep her voice sounds when she sings, "I can see it in your eyes." Overall, I enjoy most of her songs. When I first heard of her, I thought that she was a new music artist. 4. RASPBERRY BERET- Prince and The Revolution- I don't completely know what this song is about. It sounds pretty good, however. 3. A VIEW TO A KILL- Duran Duran- Although I have never seen this movie, this song was good. For me, this song is similar to "Hungry Like The Wolf". To me, they both have somewhat of a disco sound. 2. SUSSUDIO- Phil Collins- As strange as it sounds, this song reminds me of Mr. Krabs from Spongebob Squarepants. I have no idea why. Is Sussudio the name of the person he has a crush on? I must research this song some more. 1. HEAVEN- Bryan Adams- I don't know how this song sounds, though I like the songs I know by him.
It seems like musicians that were part of a group were having successful solo careers. Also, it looked like future, very well-known musicians were maintaining their success, or were beginning to take the lead. All of the songs, even those I did not list, were great.
