Have been in shock since 1pm when I got a breaking news alert from FNC about a death at his mansion and found out it was him. RIP. At first they reported someone at Prince's mansion had died. They wouldn't confirm it was Prince, even though by 1:00 PM (EST) it was obvious it was Prince. His publicist had confirmed and every news outlet on the planet confirmed it.

It was the first I had heard about it at that time. And theres also something to be said about getting complete confirmation from the sources you trust before reporting it. Erroneous deaths have been reported more than once. An extra few minutes wasn't going to hurt anyone.

I knew Prince had a health scare last week but I am shocked that he has passed. It was always a joy to hear the first release from one of his new albums because his sound always sounded so fresh. We will get to hear him this weekend on the 4/25/87 show singing "Sing O' The Times" at #3. He was an amazing talent.
Personal faves: "Little Red Corvette", "1999", "Take Me With You", "Raspberry Beret", "U Got The Look", and "Diamonds & Pearls". Also, he produced and played pretty much every instrument for a project called Madhouse, which was part funk, part jazz, part fusion. "Six" is an incredible tune from the 1987 album, "Eight".

By the time I heard it was confirmed on CNN. So I felt OK posting the news but I get what you're saying. Too many death hoaxes. You have to be careful when reporting things like this.

Checked my phone notifications, for the record it was CNN who sent the breaking news one about a death at his mansion, not Fox.

First, David Bowie, then Maurice White, then Merle Haggard, and now Prince. I agree, bring on 2017 now.
Words cannot express how shocked I am this time. He had a lot of good upbeat music. We can now imagine what it sounds like when doves cry - over Prince's death.
Maybe someday it may be revealed if Bobby Nunn who wrote and offered "Rocket 2 U" to The Jets really was Prince. I did listen to the May 21, 1988 AT40 on my iPad today, and I did learn that The Jets lived in Minneapolis in 1988, which is where Prince grew up. Given the writing style of the title, I see a connection.
My personal favoritest by Prince:
"1999" (1983, version heard on AT40) "Delirious" (1983) "When Doves Cry" (1984, extended) "Let's Go Crazy" (1984, extended) "Darling Nikki" (1984, didn't chart) "Take Me With U" (1985) "Kiss" (1986) "Sign O' The Times" (1987) "Alphabet St." (1988) "Batdance" (1989) "Black Sweat" (2006, most likely didn't make it to Ryan's AT40)
Sad we lose such a great singer. Saddest death in music since Michael Jackson, IMO.
R.I.P. Prince. Thanks for some great music.

RIP Prince.
His IQ in terms of music creativity was off the charts and way over my head. All I know is that when I heard it, I usually liked it. If I didn't, I could appreciate that there was a creative genius making legendary classics.
That will be sorely missed by the music industry.
