From this week in 2006, it's a song that was the theme to the James Bond movie "Casino Royale" (on a side note, this is the second time in three weeks I've included a James Bond theme in this thread, which is ironic since I've never sat through a James Bond movie). It was also this artist's only solo entry on the Hot 100, debuting at its peak position of #79 this week. Here's "You Know My Name" by Chris Cornell.

For this week's lost 2000s classic, I'm including a double-sided hit from 2001. The A-side was written in response to the 9/11 attacks and features Eric Clapton on guitar, while the B-side was supposedly written about the death of the artist's late wife, Linda, although he claims he doesn't know who the song is written about. The single was at its second week at its peak position of #97 on the Hot 100 this week. Personally, I think I prefer the B-side more than the A-side. Here's "Freedom"/"From a Lover to a Friend" by Paul McCartney.

From this week in 2003, it's a song from a Canadian singer-songwriter that just barely missed the Billboard Top 40, peaking at #41 the following January. It also came close to making the Top 40 in Radio and Records, peaking at #45. Here's "Fallen" by Sarah McLachlan.
P.S. Keep an eye out next week for a special announcement on the future of this thread.

A special Christmas extra this week: From 2013, it's a song that was originally recorded by Wham! in 1984, but was rewritten with new lyrics for this artist's version and peaked at #96 on the Hot 100 earlier in December. Here's "Last Christmas" by Ariana Grande.

From New Year's 2016, it's a song by a British DJ and producer that peaked at #1 on Billboard's Dance Club Songs chart in November, and at #5 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart the same month. It also barely missed Mediabase's Top 40, peaking at #41 in March. Featuring vocals by Boy Matthews, here's "Ocean Drive" by Duke Dumont.

So here's the announcement I mentioned last week:
I've been doing this thread for almost four years now, and at some point I'd like to retire it. However, there are still quite a few songs that I want to include in it. I thought it would be hard for me to find songs to include every week, but I found that there are still many that I can choose from. Also, you may have noticed that I include a lot of dance songs in this thread. That's because I started listening to EDM music in 2012, mostly to drown out the noise around me when I'm at work, but I ended up really liking that type of music, and there are a lot of songs I still haven't included from that genre.
I'm also considering going back to including songs that hit the Top 40 on Radio and Records/Mediabase. When I started this thread, I decided not to include any songs that reached the top 40 on that chart. That lasted a week - I forgot to check the chart before I posted the second song in the thread ("Misunderstood" by Bon Jovi). Because of that, I ended up occasionally including songs from that Top 40, but stopped doing so before the end of 2015. However, there are some songs I'd love to include that reached the Radio and Records/Mediabase Top 40, which would give me additional songs to add to the thread if I decide to do so.
So a few weeks ago, I made the decision that beginning in 2019, I'm going to include TWO songs a week (every Sunday and Wednesday), for as long as I'm able to. If I find this is too much for me, I'll go back to one song a week. But even at the rate of two songs a week, I still might have enough songs to keep this thread going into 2020 at least.
So to start off this thread for 2019, we begin with the first song included from last year, 2018. It's a song by a Swedish DJ and record producer who passed away last April, and this song seems like a fitting farewell. It reached #114 on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart in May following his death, and was currently at #14 on the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart, after peaking at #4 the previous November. Featuring Sandro Cavazza on vocals, here's "Without You" by Avicii.

From 2010, it's a song by an American rapper that was released as a single this month, from the album "Man on the Moon: The End of Day". It peaked at #59 on the Hot 100 the previous October, at the time of the album's release. Here's "Pursuit of Happiness" by Kid Cudi featuring MGMT and Ratatat. Also included is the equally popular Steve Aoki remix, released the previous December and later included on the soundtrack to the 2012 film "Project X".

From this week in 2007, it's a song originally released by the Scottish punk band Skids in 1978. It was covered as a duet by two rock bands, one Irish and the other American, and was performed live by both bands in September 2006 at the first football game held at the Louisiana Superdome following Hurricane Katrina. The song was at #91 on the Hot 100, after peaking at #51 the previous month. Here's "The Saints Are Coming" by U2 and Green Day.

From this week in 2012, it's a song by a female singer that was at its peak position of #91 on the Hot 100, and would later be included in the book "1001 Songs You Must Hear Before You Die". Earlier that month, the artist performed the song on "Saturday Night Live", which was criticized by fans of the show as one of the worst musical performances in the show's history. Here's "Video Games" by Lana Del Rey. Also included is the video of her "SNL" performance, so you can judge for yourself whether it was as bad as people said (personally, I find her a little stiff and her singing isn't very strong, but the performance isn't horrible - at least compared to some other "SNL" musical acts).
