[...] * "Der Kommissar" is not only one of my all-time faves from '83 but also one of my all-time faves from one-hit wonders. The lead singer doesn't sing a who lot of this song... but it works. I couldn't decide if I wanted to feature the single version or album version so I'll feature both : [...] If I separate the combination "After The Fire - Der Kommissar", I get a cha cha cha and a rock n´roll: cha cha cha --> "Der Kommissar" by Falco: rock n´roll --> After The Fire with "1980 F":

3/5/83:
Dexy´s Midnight Runners - Come On Eileen Duran Duran - Hungry Like The Wolf
Lionel Richie - You Are Musical Youth - Pass The Dutchie Sammy Hagar - Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy
An Austrian extra: Gary Lux
Gary Lux was born in Kingston/Ontario and came to Austria as a child. He received a degree in electrical engineering, but devoted himself above all to music, especially the piano. In 1988 he worked in Los Angeles with John Travolta, Chick Corea and Julia Migenes. And in 1989 he worked on the worldwide TV environmental show "Earth 90", which was included in the Guiness Book of Records with the largest children´s choir in the world. Gary Lux participated six times in the Eurovision Song Contest.
A few weeks ago, on 1/26/2019 Gary celebrated his 60th birthday. And in 1984 he recorded the duet "Kumm hoit mi" ("Come Hold Me") with Gitti Seuberth as Gitti & Gary:

I love ATF's version of the song. Falco's version is surprisingly meh, imo Within a very short time, however, Falco composed a "mixture of High German, Viennese slang and "colloquial American"". He also mentioned: "The German language has many disadvantages when you make a song lyric - but it also has an eminent advantage over English. There are not nearly as many words in English with so many different meanings. English, that hits the nail on the head, but you can rather get out of the German language as a lyricist, although the speech melody is of course not as suitable for pop music as that of English." Talking about idioms: I always find it amusing how different idioms can be: In Austria, for example, you have to say "This is not my beer." instead of "This is not my cup of tea.". Beer ? Yes, beer. The idiom "This is not my beer" goes back to the student language of the 19th century. The dialect form "Birne" ("pear"), which can also stand for "Kopf" ("head") in German, was transformed into "Bier" (" beer"). Well, after so much beer (naturally only in the idiom) maybe a (real) beer from one of the (meanwhile 298 !) Austrian breweries. One of the oldest breweries in Salzburg exists since 1492, more precisely since 6/16/1492. And the oldest wheat beer brewery in Austria is also located in Salzburg and is called "Die Weisse" ("The White"). The brewery has been pursued here since 1901. And how would Casey end such information: Naturally with "By the way: Remember - If you drink, don´t drive.". ... as the countdown "drives" on ...

"Hurricane" was their first (and last) cooperation. The band consisted of Gary Lux ( at40fg.proboards.com/post/153464), Hans Christian Wagner, Bernhard Rabitsch, Peter Vieweger and Patricia Tandien. The performance of this catchy synth-pop song with a touch of schlager is thougt to be the first appearance of a boy band at the Grand Prix TV show. But that´s not quite correct, even if the vocals were only sung by the male members of Westend, on stage they were supported by a female group member - dancer Patricia Tandien. from my musical category "daydreamer"My motto: "Not always the often heard hits."

This week's '70's countdown from 3/18/72 has to go down as one of the greatest musically. So many fantastic songs like the following:
Glory Bound/The Grass Roots Betcha By Golly Wow/The Stylistics Roundabout/Yes We've Got To Get It On Again/The Addrisi Brothers Ain't Understanding Mellow/Jerry Butler & Brenda Lee Eager American Pie/Don McLean Don't Say You Don't Remember/Beverly Bremers In The Rain/The Dramatics Sweet Seasons/Carole King Joy/Apollo 100 Bang A Gong (Get It On)/T. Rex Hurting Each Other/The Carpenters Down By The Lazy River/The Osmonds The Way Of Love/Cher Precious And Few/Climax Mother And Child Reunion/Paul Simon Without You/Nilsson A Horse With No Name/America

"Mother & Child Reunion" was the name of an entree that Paul Simon spotted on a menu for a Chinese restaurant. One that contained both chicken and eggs in the ingredients, I assume.
