I've never heard Dickie Goodman use an Elton John song for any of his break-in records. So I don't the connection has anything to do with him.
I'm gonna guess that these songs were played in a movie. I don't know the title, but I think it's the one where Robert Redford plays a reporter investigating the Watergate scandal.

There was a piece of Elton's "Goodbye Yellow Brick Road" played in "Energy Crisis '74". Forgot about that piece. Guess that brings the Dickie Goodman connection back in play. Hopefully chrislc will clear this up.

Hopefully chrislc will clear this up. Okay time's up. The songs on the list represent the next time each of the artists featured in Energy Crisis '74 appeared in the Top 40. The John Williams and Melissa Manchester clues represented the next time each of those artists appeared after being featured the next time Dickie Goodman made the Top 40.

And that's why it's called Trivia For Dummies - because a dummy put the question together

You're no dummy, chrislc, but that one was cleverly tough.

You're no dummy, chrislc, but that one was cleverly tough. Thank you. It occurred to me while I was out doing chores that perhaps the list might be correct after all (if Bennie And The Jets had made the Top 40 before Energy Crisis '74 made the Top 40) but I missed it by thatmuch. Bennie And The Jets made the Top 40 one week later. Also you had already pointed out that Bennie And The Jets made the Top 40 after Energy Crisis '74 so there is another example of my excellent reading skills This is what I get for relying on Wikipedia. They have Bennie And The Jets listed after Don't Go Breaking My Heart - apparently it wasn't released as a single in Britain until late 1976. Also Charlie Rich made the Top 40 the same week as Energy Crisis '74 with There Won't Be Anymore so I guess A Very Special Love Song literally is Charlie's first hit to make the Top 40 after Energy Crisis '74. I should have invested in a Whitburn. These lists would be a lot easier to put together. At first I was going to post the same list based on Mr. Jaws but I thought it would be too easy - also Dynomite and The Hustle had no Top 40 followups.

I was going to say all of them had multiple Top 40 hits except for Richie Havens.

"Rush Rush" is not a movie title.
