Since Premiere only offered a 2 wheel drive and not a 4 wheel drive option this week, I am listening to K-Tel records on vinyl today. I am burned out on 84' shows this year and the 75 show might be a little out of my league (might catch it later). I am listening to Warner Bros. "Sessions" from 1982. Between Paul Davis's "Cool Night" and The Korgis "Everybodys Got To Learn Sometime", (great song BTW) I am now in a calm and relaxing mood! LOL

Braves don't lose...I mean play until about 2:30 today and there wasn't a game I wanted to watch for an hour and a half before. So getting a head start on the week: AT40 8/23/75

I'm inside the top five of 8/23/75, and all five songs ultimately hit the top spot. With only seven number ones on the entire survey, that is quite an odd occurrence. But, it IS 1975, so not really that odd I suppose.
BTW, what was it with AT40 and "Jive Talkin'"? I've listened to every show it's been on thus far, and it's never been played in its entirety - not even while number one. Can anybody shed some light on this for me?

They were the predecssor of the NOW CD's that are sold today. This was the first one I ever had: Was 9 years old and played it over and over til it warped! Also had this: In 6th grade the teacher let us bring our own records before school and play them on the classroom record player. That one made me the cool kid for about a week lol.

I had Hit Explosion too! Had a few others as well. Loved K-Tel records!
I'm listening to 1-19-74 right now. Lots of smooth sounds started off the show and that is relaxing me!

ok park, I had been curious about this myself after listening to that show myself. So after hearing the 8/25/79 show where another #1 song from 1975 was edited in the archives feature (Eagles' "Best of My Love"), I did another editing analysis. First of all, it was not an AT40 edit on the Eagles song but the dreadful 45 version where they cut out the whopping 10 seconds late in the song. Why they played the 45 version on a 4 hour show is beyond my comprehension. BTW, loved the story of how Stan Kenton dissed country music in an article read by Charlie Daniels which caused CD to challenge SK to record a country song to the tune of $10,000. To which SK mailed him an album he recorded in the 50s with the help of Tex Ritter and an invoice for the 10 grand. Charlie refused saying he wanted Stan to record something on his own and at that time. So in essence Charlie won the bet. Of course the song that followed featured a bet Johnny won against the devil! Ok back to that matter at hand. This is my second editing analysis. A few weeks ago, I analyzed the oft edited "Love is Like Oxygen" and found it was edited 9 out of the 13 times it was played during its chart run. As for "Jivetalkin", it was not edited in its first 2 weeks on AT40. After that, the Brothers Gibb had the axe job done on them. It was played unedited in thier second week at #1 and in their last week on AT40. That means that 7 out of the 11 weeks they were on AT40 during that chart run, the song was edited. Different between the unedited and edited versions is about a minute so it is blatant. This appears to be the first instance of AT40 targeting one song to be consistently edited. Mid-1975 is on the edge of the phase during AT40 history where editing needed to be done because of the length of songs. In fact, the song that may be solely responsible for the editing on "Jivetalkin" is "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", a long song by 1975 standards. (To play that one unedited, they had to edit something else).

Duke, but on a lot of countdowns I have heard with Someone Saved My Life Tonight, it was an edit (minus the third verse)

Just finished 7/14/90...very hit or miss in terms of the music. Some of the highlights include Depeche Mode, Faith No More, Del Amitri, The Time, After 7, the Lightning Seeds and Motley Crue. Some of the lowlights: Seduction, Nikki, Sweet Sensation, George LaMond, Bobby Brown, and Poison ("Unskinny Bop" isn't their worst song--pretty good tune, but did they spend any more than 5 minutes in coming up with the lyrics?). And some admitted guilty pleasures...how about Digital Underground, Louie Louie, and Johnny Gill? One thing you notice about pop music during this era has how heavily produced so many of these songs are. Let's face it--would artists like Seduction, Sweet Sensation, and Linear have had any chance at a hit whatsoever if they didn't produce the heck out of their songs? Overall an interesting listen--took me back to my high school days and fun to listen to a Shadoe show every now and then...
On to 8/25/84 and one of my favorite years in music...
