My weekly review of the year 1985 brings me to 8/17/85, a week in which the record for consecutive weeks that foreign acts occupied the top spot on the Hot 100 was tied at 14, matching a run of weeks from 1964 during the height of the "British Invasion". This record would remain tied, however, as San Francisco's Huey Lewis & the News would wrest the number one position away from Tears for Fears' "Shout" the next week.

Right now, it's 8/20/77. In contrast to 1976 - which got better as the year moved past the half-way point - musically this part of '77 was not quite up to par with the first half, especially March thru June. Two Shaun Cassidy songs (yes, two) drag this show down on their own merits.
Later, I'll be listening to the second Shadoe show, from 8/20/88. This is a newer show in my collection, thanks to a generous benefactor who must remain nameless. They know who they are, and they are quite appreciated for their kindness.

Very odd in the final four of the show they scheduled a LDD with Chicago's You're the insperation followed by their I don't want live without your love (Different lead singers but it's odd scheduling )

Right now, it's a Shadoe Stevens AT40 offering, from 8/17/1991. Though I definitely prefer CT40 to AT40 by this time, that doesn't diminish the respect and fandom I had/have for The Shadoe. I can't say anything positive that hasn't already been said on this site before about Shadoe. I will just say I echo all of those sentiments.

JessieLou got her extra wish on the 70s show. And I just heard a show where Grace and co. were at #1. 11/23/85. Had to do a repair on this show so that's why an out of season show was on the pc this afternoon. BTW, Casey said "Up 3 notches to their biggest hit is Heart with Never at #5". Plus Pat Benatar was part of the answer to a question about solo artists with the most top 40 hits without hitting #1. She was the female artist and so a lot to like in this show for JL. BTW, I liked the show too. Liked it a lot.

It's 8/18/84. I'll get through it. It won't be easy, but I'll survive. Skipping about half of the songs will help a lot.
Later, I'll reward myself with the 8/21/99 show, a much better period for pop music.

It's the CT40 from 8/19/89. Of all the times I choose to listen to an R&D, it's gotta be "The Living Years" accompanied by the saddest d**n letter I've ever heard Casey read, about a girl who told her father to drop dead on her 16th birthday when she didn't get her presents that morning, and wouldn't you know it? He had a massive heart attack that day and died the next.
My father and I never were very close, until I actually came out and we both had to deal with my religious mother and her "hate the sin, love the sinner" B.S. He was so accepting and even proud of me, I think, for being courageous enough to do what I should have done 15 years prior. He always called me "The Pittsburgh Kid", long before Neil Walker was given that moniker when he came up with the Pirates.
When he died over three years ago, I was there when he took his last labored breath (his lungs were destroyed by a disease brought on by his rheumatoid arthritis). There were still things we had never discussed, and after that moment, it was far too late to do so.
Needless to say, it's a bad idea for me to listen to that song here in my office at work, and on a Friday, no less.
