It's the first countdown of April 1977 today, and if it's a show from the Spring of 1977, that means a quarter of the songs in the countdown are current/former/future number ones. It is, and they are, including the top six and seven of the top eight survey songs.

^When I read the first part of your post, I thought you were going to write that it meant a bunch of songs were going to be edited. Having heard that show yesterday, I can testify to it although listening to the show was not necessary to know that fact. Will be doing one my editing jobs where I edit in the Lp versions of certain songs, like "Night Moves", "Fly Like an Eagle", "Carry on Wayward Son".

I certainly could have said that, duke. I guess both statements go without saying, as we all are familiar with 1977 AT40 shows.
A tale of two songs: At numbers 22 and 21, a pair of hits both in their sixth week on the Hot 100 move up 14 notches - Rose Royce with "I Wanna Get Next to You" and Leo Sayer with "When I Need You", respectively. However, the former would only go on to hit number 10, while the latter would become Sayer's second American chart-topper.
Also, Casey makes a big mistake while introducing "Hotel California" at number eight. He says that the Eagles are headed for their fourth number one record in a row. Which is entirely incorrect, as two of their six songs within that stretch peaked below the top spot. I don't think I have to name them for anybody on here.

It's now the show from this chart date in 1988. Casey raps while introducing "Goin' Back to Cali" by LL Cool J. d**n, this is a funny Casey.
This is also the show wherein Casey does a tribute to Andy Gibb, who had recently died, by playing the top song of 1978, "Shadow Dancing".

Reading this makes me wish they would've played it this weekend as I liked the 10/10/87 "Casey's Dictionary Of Rap" before LL Cool J's "I Need Love". Not to mention going through some old tapes I found a tape I made recording the Top 10 of this show & would like to hear the rest of the show.

3/22/75 - right now at #24. The best and worst so far:
Best: #24 - Ben E. King "Supernatural Thing" - this song is so bada$$ - one of the great forgotten Motown hits #31 - EW&F "Shining Star" - one of many great songs from them #39 - Ozark Mtn Daredevils "Jackie Blue" - good mid-70's rock song #28 - Blackbyrds "Walking In Rhythm"
Worst: #38 - Elvis "My Boy" - sorry to any Elvis fans out there, but most of his 70s material is really terrible...almost unlistenable #26 - Freddie Fender "Before the Next Teardrop Falls" - still don't get how this song made it to #1 #36 - Jimmy Castor Bunch "Bertha Butt Boogie" - a mid 70's novel song that is just painful to listen to
Interesting about this show--Premiere's presentation removes several of the split logos, such that only one of the two is played at non-commercial segment breaks. I'm thinking there was a '75 show that aired last year where the same thing happened. Curious as to why...

matt, most radio stations felt the same way about Elvis tunes in the 70s. I can definitely say that I heard only "Burnin Love" and "Way Down" on the radio back then. Can't quite agree with you about his material but obviously a lot of program directors from that time do. Freddie Fender is my least favorite #1 song of the decade so I am with you all the way there!
Listening to the 80s show from 1985 myself. Both "A" shows this week feature a reference to heroin in the first 15 minutes. Other than the following week in the 70s (4/8/72 when 'King Heroin' held at #40), you can probably count the number of times that Casey referred to heroin on your thumbs in between these 2 shows.
And Casey ties in the 1985 show and the 1975 show matt is listening to, well almost. Says Patti LaBelle debuts with her first hit in 10 years, hitting #1 her last time out. She missed by one week of debuting exactly 10 years after she hit #1, on 3/29/75.

I do like much of Elvis' early material--from the late 50's/early 60's. I just thought his 70's stuff was pretty unappealing. It feels like many of these songs were hits largely because the singer's name was Elvis Presley, and not because of the songs themselves.

It is the AT40 from today's date in 1992 and Shadoe is away from the mic this week. Instead, it is the sweet and I mean really sweet voice of Jody Watley. This is gonna be good!

AT40 from April 4, 1998. Figured I'd put on a 1998 show since Rick Dees avoids 1998 like the plague.
