Listening to 8/22/81 right now--at #28. Some highlights from the first hour:
-"The Voice" Moody Blues - love this song and "Gemini Dream" from '81 -"Breaking Away" Balance - didn't remember this song until I started listening to the PRN AT40 80s classic shows four years ago, but one of my favorites to hear on Aug/Sept '81 shows now -The last week in the countdown for "Time" (APP - dropped 22 notches!), "The One That You Love" (dropped 21 notches), and "Bette Davis Eyes" (in its 20th week! - it debuted on AT40 on 4/11/81), and of course "Double Dutch Bus"
EDIT: This show had a GREAT run of songs from #22-15...then one of the worst momentum-killing songs I've heard: "It's Now or Never" by John Schneider...wow is that a bad song. Can't believe that actually made it all the way to #14. Guessing if he hadn't been playing Bo Duke at the time, this song never would have seen the light of day.

Both of those Moody Blues songs are fantastic

Been wondering about this for some time. Now I am going to ask about CD sales in the 90s. Did they explode or is it my imagination? On the 9/18/99 AT40, Casey just counted the top 5 selling CDs by women. They were all from the 90s and worldwide sales ranged from 24 million to over 30 million from #5 to #1. So did CD sales explode in the 90s? And Casey just teased the second teenage girl to sell 6 million copies of a CD. And both of those are in the 90s! LeAnn Rhimes and Britney Spears. BTW, the 5 above Whitney, Alanis, Mariah and 2 for Celine.

Of course. More people had CD players in the 90s and LP's and Cassettes went away.
If by cd's you mean just album sales in general, still yes. There was no iTunes, singles had pretty much disappeared in terms of typical pop singles, and the economy was better so people had more $$ to spend.

I'm halfway through a great countdown, 9/15/79. I'd have to rate September 1979 fairly high among September charts of the 1970s. Eventually, I'll get to that thread.

Some CD singles (and some cassette singles) were available, but I remember often complaining that I had to spend $15 on the entire CD to get one song. If most or all of the album was good, then it was worth it, but more often then not I wouldn't get into most of the album. In the next six months or so after that, along came...Napster! P2P file sharing rocked the recording industry's world and eventually forced record companies to go back to making singles readily available via the Internet for a fraction of the cost of an album. BTW, I still don't feel a bit sorry for any of the poor record company execs who claimed to have "lost money" during that time. Their own fault they didn't see it coming an accommodate their true customers--us music listeners.

Their own fault they didn't see it coming an accommodate their true customers--us music listeners. They changed their methods. That's what matters in the end. It took p2p and the realization that people weren't going to buy albums they didn't want when there was just one or two songs they liked anymore. Glad p2p got shut down but I doubt the record companies saw a dramatic increase in revenue once that happened either. The introduction of MP3 players like dell jukebox which I had very early on and iPods helped speed that along too.

I always like Fall 2004 shows, my freshman year of college. Were we down to 1 LDD yet, or still 2 at this point?
If I recall it was 2005 when features like the Book of Records and Whatever Happened To... returned for the final time

If I recall it was 2005 when features like the Book of Records and Whatever Happened To... returned for the final time I believe it was 1 this week. The book of records I heard either on AT10 or AT20 a few weeks ago and that was an 04 show. I don't think it's been on every week though. As you can see, I listen very attentively.

Listening to Chicago Radio - The 60s and 70s on tunein.com. They also have a separate 80s station and a 90s one as well. I can't find Chicago Radio The 60's and 70's on tunein.com. I also can't find the 80's and 90's station.

2/20/88. I wanted late 80s sound but still wanted enough songs that were decent and familiar.
