Casey's Top 40 from 7/26/97. Two segments in and we already had a Sarah Mclachlan R&D about a dead person Hopefully it wasn't preceded by an uptempo gd number... "Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai preceded it. Incidentally, the McLachlan song requested ("I Will Remember You") had not reached the Radio & Records CHR pop chart yet. Maybe it had charted at AC, but at pop it didn't become a hit until a 1999 live version reached #10. In fact Sarah never actually charted on CT40 at all until three weeks later, when "Building a Mystery" debuted. Meanwhile, I'm listening to the 9/13/75 AT40 played by SXM last weekend; it was originally broadcast one week before I was born. (SXM played my birthweek AT40 last year; Premiere never has and this week we're probably missing the chance again.) I did just hear the BS word in "Fight the Power" which I thought was edited out on all but its first two appearances; either they missed something that week or SXM edited in a version with it.

Outside of the April-July period when he would never miss, there are lots of periods in the mid 90s where Casey is on two weeks, David Perry, on two, DP, etc I'm not sure if he was busy with other things, or if he was just taking advantage of his vacation package. Or if he was just bored with the show at that point. I always find it interesting that when he stopped his monthly vacations in 2004 is also when the shows got a bit less robotic. I just finished 7/26/97 and that was really in the height of "robotic Casey" don't get me wrong he still sounded great as he always does - but that whole era has that "mailed it in" sound when compared to the 70s and 80s AT40

You know just yesterday I heard the CT40 from this week in 1996 and "I Will Remember You" was a R&D in that show too. Except it was not Sarah's song, it was Amy Grant's song of the same title. I have heard both songs played as R&Ds/LDDs several times. Sarah's version(different song altogether BTW) seems to have taken over as the preferred song to request in 1997. Bottom line, this must be the most popular R&D/LDD song title that is actually done by 2 different artists. In fact, I seem to remember a third song of this title as an R&D in 1991..before Amy Grant's song came out...by Skid Row. Little too much power in that 'power ballad' there to be as popular as the other 2 "I Will Remember You"s...lol

As for "I Will Remember You" being an LDD before it charted... that wasn't the only time it had happened. I seem to recall Michael Jackson's "Heal The World" being played as an LDD by Shadoe in 1992 before it hit AT40.

Listening to 9/14/85 right now. At number 27 and moving up five is "Fortress Around Your Heart", which remains one of my favorite Sting/Police songs, along with "King of Pain".

His contract might have been built around activities he was participating in elsewhere but I don't think it was just "he's bored." He seemed to take most of them around the same time every year and in 89 I believe there was an instance of two of Mark Elliott one week, Casey the next, and then Mark again. I knew his vacation amount was ridiculous in WW1 though I don't begrudge him for it. If I could get that much paid time off a year I would too. Congress does! I just thought it got somewhat regulated to like at least 4 weeks before another week off.

Once he got to AMFM/Premiere, it was always a minimum of 3 weeks on, 1 week off, and many times it was 4 weeks on.
Then after February 04, it was truly a rare occurance until the last few months.

And you could almost always guess in advance when it would be, because it was always roughly the same weeks each year

I don't begrudge Casey for having that much time off. I envy him for having had it. Most of the developed, civilized world gets at least a month off per year for vacation. Except we here in the "greatest country in the world".
That must mean we're not as developed and civilized as we'd like to think. Now where's my Adrian Peterson jersey?

And you could almost always guess in advance when it would be, because it was always roughly the same weeks each year I really think why it was virtually non existent after he stopped doing AT40 is just the strain was less on him. Plus for all we know, he slowed down his involvement with various groups and activities then too or because he wasn't doing 10 hours a week anymore he was able to fit it all in without missing weeks.
