It's 9/7/85 now, not sure about later.
Edit: Man, is there a better non-number one song from 1985 than "We Don't Need Another Hero" by Tina Turner? I don't think there is. Perfect song, sung perfectly by the perfect singer for the song.

I disagree. I don't care if he "made" her what she was, Ike Turner was a horrible person. I equate it with the way Michael Jackson was treated by his father. He messed him up so badly. I don't think Michael ever escaped his childhood. I think he was perpetually stuck there, and it was his father's doing.

Never liked her. Ike made her what she was and she couldn't just be nice about him, even when he died. Sad really. After all, there'd be no Tina Turner without Ike discovering her and making her a star. Though that song is one of the few of hers I like... Are you kidding? He was abusive to her! I wouldn't have blamed her if she had pulled the trigger on him!

I know what she says. And the movie sure amped it up. I'm not doubting all of her claims, just don't think it was as bad as the movie says it was. She does owe him gratitude for making her a star though. No one can disagree with that! Ok, how about someone beat your *ss to a pulp, you become a big star because of the person who beat you senseless and then see if you are grateful for it. For crying out loud!!! I never saw the movie. Only know what I've heard and read over the years LONG before it ever came out. If this is the grip of reality some on this board have perhaps it's time to shut it down.

Here is a thought: maybe she couldn't "be nice about him" because he beat her. I could not care less if you don't like Tina Turner, or her music. However, if one of your reasons is that she could not be nice to a person who abused her, I find that highly offensive.

I agree with both paul and woolebull above. Ike Turner was physically and mentally abusive toward Tina. No way should she be "nice about him". I, too find it highly offensive to defend an abuser.

Sorry everyone, I left my browser open and my friend who is staying with me did a hack job on many places.
Tina is good by me. The Best, Thunderdome, Better Be Good To Me & I Don't Wanna Fight are classics and I loved her in Tommy & Mad Max.
I do respect Ike for his accomplishments in music but that's about it. Beating and raping her was way overboard!
Again, sorry for my smartass friend. I will delete or change the other posts.

Geez, forgot why I was here in the first place.
Today doing 9-5-81 and 9-2-89
81 show pretty good. I love Raydio but the song That Old Song wasn't as good as their usual stuff. Give me You Can't Change That & Get Down anyday!
89 show. Wish Roxette had made it by then but oh well. They were a week away.
Anyhow, loved hearing Partyman, When I Looked At Him, Hey Ladies, Love Song by The Cure, a lost hit by Starship (Its Not Enough), Toy Soldiers, a lost hit by Katrina & the Waves, One by The Bee Gees, One of Bobby Browns better tunes in On Our Own from Ghostbusters II, great Don Henley and Warrant tunes and a lost hit by Surface that I really enjoy.
Another great mix of styles, though I could've done without Bust A Move. Hearing it for the 300,000th time though didn't ruin this great show!

Took a week off which was refreshing to do so.
Now: Terps/Bulls w/alcohol Tomorrow: Saints/Bucs w/alcohol (see a trend here)
Monday afternoon it's back to the shows from 40, 30, 20, and 10 years ago. Out of curiosity has anyone ever heard the Producers special? That's coming up for me in a few weeks and I'm wondering if it's good or something to dread.

Premiere's played it more than once, and SXM has aired it as well. It's good; not great, but not something to dread. Focusing on the producers rather than the artists did lend an interesting, different perspective to some of the commentary.

Yes, the producers special was good and interesting. Neat to hear some of the diverse artists that producers produced!
