Actually you listed several different styles of music, that would constitute variety. Maybe not a variety you like since it sounds like all you want is whatever "black" music is (another term I hated) and if it passes your standards then there is variety. Every music style does not have to be represented for there to be variety.

I suppose now that I'm listening to 8-30-80 that its not diverse as well. I see why though. The true Chris Cross at #1, right ahead of Diana Ross too. Tsk, tsk, tsk.
I suppose the highest debut in the 40 is so bad too. They probably did funk wrong I bet!

Only a true moron of your ilk would expect a man who had never hit the top 40 to suddenly chart after his death. To compare it to The Beatles shows your ignorance in spades! I know, the white man was keeping the black man down that week on the charts. Darn us honkeys! Lets look at this week, this years charts, hmmm. 85-90% pop and rap. LOTS of variety there! There's actually not all that much straightforward rap/hip-hop on pop radio lately. 10 years ago there was a lot more. There is a rather heavy load of dance music, but at least it doesn't all sound overly similar as at times in the past. I personally especially like the alt-rock and punk-pop/emo stuff. And I'm really getting sick of this personal fight playing out on this board.

I am too if he'd stop with his inaccurate racist rants, I wouldn't feel like I have to defend myself.

Went with 9-1-79. Another great mix of music! Sadly two favorites were yet to get in (Arrow Through Me & Ain't That A Shame) Plus Joe Jackson fell out that week. Pity.
But alot to applaud this show! Lots of great lost hits and even smooth jazz with Spyro Gyra!

I went with the Braves being no hit by the Phillies. Thinking even a show from 1980 would have been more constructive!

AT40 from September 8, 1979, with Gordon Elliott guest hosting. It's odd to hear AT40 done by a guy with an Australian accent! Now on at #26, M's future #1 "Pop Muzik".

Right now it's 8-30-1986. Going to dip into a little 2000s action later with 9-2-2000.

9/2/72 and I can't remember in the 800 or shows I have heard over the years where the same set of songs was part of the answer to 2 listener questions. First it was asking about artists who have followed themselves into the #1 position and part of the answer was Elvis doing it with "Hound Dog", "Don't be Cruel" and "Love Me Tender". Then in the next hour, it was asking about who has spent the most consecutive weeks in the #1 position and those same 3 songs were mentioned as Elvis piled up 16 weeks on top. BTW, he was tied with other artists in both situations. And he was also a week away from debuting with "Burning Love" so Casey made up for his absence in the countdown! BTW, Casey has mentioned several times how they are counting down to a new #1 song. However, it is actually "Along Again Naturally" returning to the top. And you thought tricky Dick who was heading to his landslide re-election at the time was a trickster.

It's 8/30/75 right now as I work through some late-August shows, with 9/5/87 on deck.

Right now I'm just finishing up hour one of 9/1/1979. I think 9/3/1988 will come next.
