Did anyone notice that Kansas's "Carry On Wayward Son" sounded like Premiere used the Greatest Hits version from 1984 and hacked the ending?

I listened to Premiere version of the 3/23/1974 AT40 show today and I noticed "Bennie and the Jets" had the 2nd verse removed. Does any one know if it was edited on the original show or was this a Premiere edit?

^Indeed it was the butches at Premiere who did that and not the originals. Pathetic that in a song with only 2 real verses that they edited a verde. BTW, it was also mentioned that "Dark Lady" was chopped. That ran 3:15 on the original show. And in the previous post on this thread about the 1975 show, it was mentioned that the first 2 songs ran about 5 minutes. In the original show, that segment ran about 6:40. So yes they did it again although that is standard practice to edit the first and/or second songs in the show.

Premiere edited Electric Light Orchestra's "Do Ya" at #24 on 4/2/77 this week by 40 seconds from 3:12 to 2:32!

The 4-2-77 had some weird editing not so much as far as individual songs, but between the jingles. Especially before ABBA's "Dancing Queen" in regards to how they did on the charts in the U.K. in 1976. I think premiere did some tweeking with that one. At least we got to hear a little bit more of Kansas's "Carry On Wayward Son" unlike the last 77 show. I knew that there would be an edit of Cerrone's "Love In C Minor" because I checked out the full version of that song on Spotify last week. Let's just say that it showed it's O Face just like The Chakachas "Jungle Fever" and Donna Summer's "I Feel Love" back in the 70's. I found it a little ironic that Cerrone's hit almost charted next to The Andrea True Connection, whose previous hit "More, More, More" was also a 70's sinsational hit.

Premiere was at it again. They edited out the 2nd verse to Gino Vannelli's 'Livin' inside myself'. I remember that, 'cause when I originally heard it broadcast in '81, it had the 2nd verse intact.

Unusually high number of edits, on the 4-258-81 show.

It's gotta be Premiere, that keeps editin' 'Workin' my way back to you'.

'Living inside myself' was edited, for the 2nd straight '81. You'd think that Premiere could find ANOTHER song to edit, besides Gino's song.

Here's a good idea. Air the songs, unedited, and simply reduce the commercial load!

Here's a good idea. Air the songs, unedited, and simply reduce the commercial load! Thats a great idea! Then the show would go away altogether and you wouldn't be able to complain about the same things each and every week anymore!

Here's a good idea. Air the songs, unedited, and simply reduce the commercial load! Maybe expand each 3 hour 1970-1978 AT40 show to 4 hours using extended versions (mostly long album versions) of the songs on each AT40 chart even if it can - like during many of the 1990's Shadoe Stevens AT40 shows and the first year of Casey's AT40 return - loop a line or chorus of a song? Ken tried this with the September 30, 1978 AT40 episode (The last 3 hour show before it went to 4 hours).

Dth, in no way is that a good idea. That would be awful and unnecessary to add an hour. Remember when the Dees shows tried that? They are, at most, editing 30-60 seconds of show content an hour. No need to add an entire hour.
Dave, the shows have 5 minutes of national commercials built in per hour. Casey's shows have had that format now for nearly 20 years. They aren't going to reduce it, those numbers are needed for revenue to keep the shows going. It's just a fact of life that there will be songs trimmed down from time to time.
