Thankfully, Premiere programmed a 1979 (i.e. 4 hour show) show at the beginning of what tends to be a very rough stretch for the remainder of the year... the dreaded Christmas programming schedule.
If we can just get through this week... (I think there's a 4 hour 1978 show sometime in mid-December, but we'll cross that bridge when we get a better idea of what stations have flipped)
In any event... we can start keeping tabs for the weekend on which stations have which shows, who airs all four hours of 1979, and which of those air the first hour extra.

KOKZ still seems to be playing regular music on air, thought there's a separate link you can click on their website for Christmas music. I hope they still play non-holiday music through this weekend at least, as they usually play 4 hour countdowns. So does WODC, but they've gone over to Christmas music and only have the Christmas countdown listed for this week (speaking of which, I hope they use the same optional extras as last year, which were songs Casey mentioned in the original countdown but AT40 apparently couldn't then find playable copies of.)
WSNV is playing Christmas music as well, so I guess they'll go with 1971 and later holiday offerings.

Yeah, with Smooth 70's out of commission and WODC looking like they are going the Christmas route, KOKZ may be our best bet this weekend to get the full 4 hours. Good station though--they do a nice job with the shows.

Why do ANY Xmas shows before Thanksgiving. And why do that format before then? Its ridiculous and most people I know complain about it. A local Rochester station usually flips early and they get ALOT of complaints on facebook.

Because the format generates ratings as much as it sucks and that generates higher ad rates. As to why the programming, well if they don't make it available they lose those affiliates through the holidays (and that could make it permanent if no one complains about it missing) which means less stations and fewer markets which means lower as rates for premiere. If you think about it, if the format is popular than the programming would be and fit in too.
So remember, the stations are going to flip. It's a matter of if these affiliates will play NO show or a holiday one.

On the website of Mix 96/KMXG, an AT40/80s affiliate in the Davenport, Iowa area, there's a countdown to their going all-Christmas music. By my calculations, midnight Eastern Friday they pull the trigger. Chalk them up for "AT40's First Christmas". dL

WMJI in Cleveland will be doing 1979, but I found it interesting that they have all 40 songs (minus extras) listed on their site this week. The last time there was a four hour 70s show, they only listed 34 (those played in hours 2-4). Maybe they're playing the complete countdowns now?

Ever since WODC has had AT40 the rule has been when the format goes all Christmas---everything goes Christmas. So regular AT40s will return December 29. Perhaps that episode will be a year-end countdown. This week's show is actually the last one aired last season. Only the commercials have been changed to protect the innocent. www.christmasincolumbus.com/pages/pp_mikeeiland.html

I listened to KOKZ a few times and sometimes they had the commercials cut into the beginning of segments (automation!!!). Let's hope they can at least get the first hour right this weekend.

CHNS-FM in Halifax should play 1979 since they haven't switched, and they usually go to full time Christmas music around Christmas Eve. Only question is whether they will play the full 4 hour version.

Wednesday 5 pm - 8 pm EST 6 pm - 9 pm LOCAL TIME (Atlantic Time Zone) CJFX - 989 XFM The Nish - Nothing But Hits - Antigonish Nova Scotia CANADA 98.9 FM www.989thenish.ca/listen-live/CORRECTED POST -- They did play a full 4 hour AT40-70's radio show with all the optional extra songs last Summer/Fall. This might be the only radio station for a full and very complete radio show. Good luck if you find a radio station with the same condtion as in the previous sentence.

Not looking good for my local affiliate, as WTOJ just went all-XMas today. They've been good at providing (and even preferring, given A/B weeks) 4 hour 70s shows.

KLFM is doing the 4-hour show right now, starting with the top 3 recap.
