I know I've posted disparaging posts on here about stations that regularily butcher the AT40 show (I hate you, WGTK Louisville!), so i thought I'd be even-handed and praise a station that is always dependable for the 80s show, and never cuts out song(s) to sell extra ad time: Thank you "Sunny Radio" KZOY Sioux Falls! They also seem to be a 'real' local station, as opposed to a Clear (aka Cheap) Channel or Citadel cookie-cutter voice-tracked abomination. Here's to "Sunny Radio, where it's always in the 80s"!
Any other dependable outlets anyone else wants to single out?

How do they butcher the show?

...oh, and to give a similar shout out to a station that runs the 70s show, WMGN "Magic 98" Madison is always dependable. Sometimes I miss their first hour or so, though, due to their Saturday evening broadcast. The legendary KOMA in OKC is a good Sunday AM choice as well, especially if I miss part of the show on Saturday night.

How do they butcher the show? Assume you're asking about the horrible WGTK. They load up their internet stream with extra ads so that entire songs, sometimes two, are cut out of EVERY segment. Sometimes you have to sit through TEN minutes or more of stupid local ads and programming promos to get a portion of a show segment. They--to put it bluntly--suck!

I only listen to WMGN or KHLA. I have listened to Sonny KOZY and they are good as well.

My 80s choice, WNSN in South Bend IN (another "sunny"), are very consistent with their breaks, and as far as I can tell, doesn't cover up anything with net-only spots.
I've only tried KOMA-FM once or twice, but they've been great as well.

WNYR has a good feed and I make sure the whole show and all the extras are going to air.
Most of these stations don't have the capacity to edit down the show due to the way its delivered to stations. If they oversell, then the extras sometimes get bumped. Some stations load extra songs just in case the show didn't come in and load, thats why you may hear extra songs after the AT40 extra each hour. Stations roll over to the next hour typically at :59 past the hour. Whatever was up next gets bumped which is why extras sometimes don't air. Though stations can opt out of extras if they like.

Ok, well sorry to tell you I don't consider that butchering. You are referring to what happens on their internet stream which is by and large for people outside their listening area. I am sure the OTA airing is fine for those in their actual listening area.

It's butchering if content from the program itself is sacrificed, whether it's online or OTA.

Maybe there should be a "stations that screw-up" thread!
As far as streaming, my best list would include any station accessible through winamp, itunes or windows media or any other decent media player. I don't like pop-up players in general. And I despise the ones that make you install something or ask if you're still listening and/or have ads--especially those audio or video ads you can't skip.
No "music station" should stream at anything less than 128kbps at a bare minimum... preferably 160 or better! 32 to 48kbps is fine for talk radio, but not for music. In this respect, many U.S. stations are bringing up the rear. Check out the new "radio gold" stream from Germany listed in the AT40 70s stations list. Also great quality on a couple of the Australian and Argentina streams. And most of these that I just mentioned can be played in itunes and winamp. THAT'S THE WAY TO DO IT!!!!
My problem is that only one local station carries AT40 The 80s and no local stations carry AT40 The 70s. And that is with an amplified rooftop antenna!
And what happened to the days when someone who worked for the station was actually listening to their own station? I can say this because I worked in radio for 20 years--both live and automated stations. To be unaware of automation problems for hours is inexcusable--and should be grounds for an FCC license review.

Tell you what--you try listening to their online broadcast next Saturday afternoon and see if you aren't screaming at your computer after the first grossly extended commercial break. I started this thread to praise stations that consistently stream the show in a professional, competent manner. You have anything to contribute to that?

Add WODC to "Stations we like!" Station rep countdownmike has contributed not only AT40 news about his station, but also to a variety of conversational threads.

Also never had a problem with KCLH.

It's butchering if content from the program itself is sacrificed, whether it's online or OTA. SXM=butchering Internet stream not returning as it should yet fine locally = not butchering.

Dependable stations that I listen to are: WODC, CKWW, WUPE, WBBG, WORC, WOGL and KKLZ. At one time I would have added KQQL but they once in a while cut the beginning of the first song from their web commercials.
