Bumping it up to post the 12th in this year's series of pre-AT40 countdowns, and the last from 1970. This is my personal favorite, as it includes many outstanding songs from the underplayed Spring 1970 season; further, it is bookended by two classic hits about human kindness. I've added a second "outsider" song (again, difficult to choose one), plus a new feature: the "bubbled under" song that would make significant progress in the next few chart weeks (and is a great rendition of Beethoven's ninth symphony, which was featured as excerpted in one of my favorite childhood films, "A Clockwork Orange".) Enough digression.
This PRE-AT40 COUNTDOWN features the top 20 songs of June 6, 1970.

Thanks for viewing this thread! In two weeks, the next pre-AT40 countdown will feature the top 20 songs (with some additional hits) from the chart date of June 21, 1969. Artists will include Donovan, Blood Sweat & Tears, Marvin Gaye, Elvis Presley, Beatles, along with several others. Recognition is given to my references, such as: the ultimate music database; Joel Whitburn's Billboard Book of top 40 Hits; and others. I'm again taking requests for the "lost oldie" from the next countdown; kindly submit requests either to this thread or by PM. See you later.
I'm still optimistic that the Demo Tape used to recruit radio stations *before* AT40 went on the air will surface one day. When recording this tape, according to Bill Hergonson, the show's first engineer, they used a Billboard chart where "The Long and Winding Road" was number one. That means Casey used the Hot 100 from either June 13, 1970 or June 20, 1970. What a find that would be if the first demo tape was located today!
