^Yeah, but at least, as of 1980, AT40 started crediting a song's entire chart run. It started out with a weird time frame (November 1 of the previous year to November 1 of the current year), but eventually, it became December 1 to December 1. "Float On" was probably the lowest ranked #2 on a year-ender that was not affected by the cutoff date (as the song was gone from the chart entirely the last week in October). Yes, that is an improvement. To be truly balanced, a song's entire chart run should (IMHO) be counted in either year, provided it peaked at least partially in the initial year (as the 5D example did). The obvious problem with that methodology is that year-end compilations could not be compiled until February, at least!

In the Seacrest era, there have been 2 songs that debuted inside the Top 10. Lady Gaga entered at #9 in 2011 with "Born This Way," and Taylor Swift came in at #10 in 2017 with "Look What You Made Me Do."
