When the September 5, 1970 show aired in 2010, Premiere offered "I Heard It Through The Grapevine" by CCR as an optional extra. The song originally appeared in that program as a track from the group's "Cosmo's Factory" album. Note also that Casey played it a second time on October 17, 1970.
And apparently the song thrived for years by getting airplay on AOR stations because Fantasy Records finally released it as a single in early 1976. It lasted on the Hot 100 for 8 weeks, climbing as high as number 43.

I’m pretty sure “Rebel Yell” was played as an optional at some point.

There have been a lot of AT40 Sneak Peek songs from 1991-1995 during the Shadoe Stevens AT40 era that never made the AT40 chart at all. The ones that I can remember off the top of my head: 57 Channels (And Nothin' On) - Bruce Springsteen (SO glad this one never made the Top 40!) Steep - Lauren Christy Full list of Sneek Peeks and their eventual chart position (or not if they didn't chart): www.at40fan.info/at40/sneek_peek.html

I know AT40 in the Casey and Shadoe years have played snippets of songs that never made the AT40 reaches but made Billboard's Hot 100, a couple of examples: "Iron Man" - Black Sabbath "Iko Iko" - Dr. John "Pops We Love You" - Diana Ross, Stevie Wonder, Smokey Robinson, and Marvin Gaye "Blame It On Love" - Smokey Robinson with Barbara Mitchell "Hold Me" - Teddy Pendergrass with Whitney Houston "Handle With Care" - Traveling Wilburys "Woman" - Def Leppard "Baby Tell Me You Can Dance" - Shanice Williams "Dear Mr. Jesus" - Powersource "Born in East L.A." - Cheech and Chong "Ricky" - Weird Al Yankovic "Try to Find Me" - Gorky Park "Heartbeat" - Tanna Gardner "It's Raining Men" - The Weather Girls

Shadoe played a drop of “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” by Andy Williams once before playing “Orinoco Flow” by Enya.

Shadoe played a drop of “Can’t Get Used to Losing You” by Andy Williams once before playing “Orinoco Flow” by Enya. That's a peculiar pairing of songs. How did Shadoe connect those two songs together?

^I don’t think I’ve heard the introduction since 1989, but he pointed out the similarity in both songs at their beginnings.

"Roots, Rock, Reggae" by Bob Marley is another (played during a piece about the history of reggae in 1983 when "Pass the Dutchie" was on the chart).

From reading the 80's thread, the upcoming 5/9/1981 show's 4th hour optional extra has John Lennon's "Beautiful Boy, Darling Boy"

Regarding an AT40 Sneak Peek song in 1994 called "Steep" by Lauren Christy: Was that overlooked by CHR Top 40?

Regarding an AT40 Sneak Peek song in 1994 called "Steep" by Lauren Christy: Was that overlooked by CHR Top 40? Unfortunately, it was, as were her other two songs "You Read Me Wrong" and "The Color Of The Night". All three of those songs were decent-sized AC hits.
