Optional extras for the November 7, 1987 'A' show are: "Rock And Roll All Nite" Poison "I Live For Your Love" Natalie Cole "Tell It To My Heart" Taylor Dayne "Dude (Looks Like A Lady)" Aerosmith
"Rock And Roll All Nite" replaces Laura Branigan's "Power Of Love", which was the first hour optional extra back in 2010.
A huge drop in quality right there... "I Don't Mind At All" by Bourgeois Tagg or "Motortown " by The Kane Gang would be a better replacements for "The Power Of Love" IMO. "I Don't Mind At All" would be perfect in respect to time constraints because that song is under three minutes long unlike the hatchet job on "Dirty Laundry" last week. It could be worse. They could have selected a different song from the Less Than Zero Soundtrack. "In-a-gadda-da vida" by Slayer in which I "wouldn't mind at all".

"I Don't Mind At All" is in fact one of my favorite songs from the decade.

Prediction for next show:
11/12/83
1980 and 1983 are almost certain to be the years of the next two shows. It's just a matter of which year is featured first, and it's been longer (over 2 months now) since 1983. 11/15/80 works for either week and if it happens to be the next show then 11/19/83 is a pretty much a slam dunk for the following week.
11/14/81 also works but 1981 likely waits until the last week of November.

Agree -- in fact the lower 60 of the Hot 100 is loaded with good songs to choose from, many of which would've been better than this. Not sure why the Poison cut?

I do think we get a 1981 standalone (B's will be the Christmas shows) in late November or December, as we've only had one 1981 A since May and that was in mid-September.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 11/8/80 2nd Guess - 11/9/85
Going with 1980 since not much else makes sense and earlier hints have suggested that '80 fits for next week. 11/8/80 last aired in 2014. Hoping that means 11/19/83 goes the following week...

The 11/7/81 countdown featured three songs from the "AT40 Archives" which were popular in the summer of 1969-One of them is "In The Year 2525" by Zager & Evans-While there are those who loathe the song,I think it's pretty cool.

(That still leaves a 1985 year end show as a possibility.) Otherwise, you're right that 1980 makes the most sense, by default, with 1983 on tap for one of the next couple of weeks and every other year having been played as an A or B less than a month prior.

So Pete said October? I couldn't remember when he said the last '85 show would be--just that we'd have one for several months in a row, and he also seemed to suggest that '85 could be the year-end special. Maybe it's between 11/8/80 and 11/15/80 (which hasn't aired since 2009) next week? No other year would really work other than 1983, which has been determined to be out for next weekend...

The 60's archives would of course be completed by the end of November, something that AT40 (and Casey's Top 40 for that matter) never did again after that. I always thought somebody should've done an 80's #1 archives at the end of the 80's, but I'm guessing time maybe didn't permit? Of course they could've just cut back on the LDDs/R&Ds (or gotten rid of them altogether) and replaced those with archive songs, but that was never going to happen. "2525" is always interesting to me as it was such a unique song--one that sounded more like a science fiction short story written into a pop song--and that it was one of the most infamous one-hit wonders in chart history. Zager & Evans struck gold with a 6-week #1 song in 1969, but never charted on the Hot 100 again, either before or after that.

Probably once again at the right place at the right time: And of course the moon landing was very helpful here. Interesting also the marketing of the song: In November 1968, Zager & Evans recorded this dark science fiction song in a recording studio in Texas. Initially, only 1,000 singles were pressed to sell the record from the trunk of their car to record stores in the surrounding area. And only then the first radio stations became aware of the song.
