To be fair, I think most offerings from 1988 seem to get "A" status, but "B" status extremely rarely. Plus, this will be the fourth straight year that an April 1988 show will have aired, and all of the available April 1988 shows will now be exhausted.
Despite that April 6, 1985 is a "B" option this current weekend, I have a feeling that April 27, 1985 will likely be be aired on the last weekend of April, likely in honor of Casey's 87th birthday.

Indeed, an ideal offering next week from Premiere for Easter weekend! Just one show that I'll need to critique next week, as I can just recycle the one from 1981, removing dated information, if any, (and of course, you all know the story about pre-1975 shows, right?) I am somewhat surprised that 1988 is the "A" show, seeing as we just had that year four weeks prior. 1980 would have made more sense, IMO. I agree with your statement about how the majority of the 1988 shows seem to get "A" status anymore (as there were only two "B" 1988's last year and none so far this year), which is understandable, as 1988 is only in play for a little over seven months out of the year. In the AT40 Flashback days, we got quite a lot of 1988 shows, especially in 2002 (of course, that was partially due to having to make last minute adjustments in removing shows from the pre-MTV era). But that's all good, as 1988 was a pretty good year in music. I don't know about April 27 being played the last week of April, however, as we just got that show two years ago. It is not out of the question, however, given what happened last week with the 4/4/1987 show. Still, I think that we're going to get something from May, 1985 this year - hopefully, May 18, which hasn't been featured since 2008, but they could go with May 4, which was last featured in 2016 (probably not May 11, which was a "B" show last year). Perhaps we'll finally get a 1980 "A" show the last weekend in April instead. As for the dearth of 1985 "A" shows - well, perhaps that is the year that is on tap for the year-ender (as the last time they featured that show was at the end of 2010, so it is very ripe for a repeat).

Interesting trivia note. Both the 1982 and 1977 shows feature medleys containing Stevie Wonder's "Uptight" AND a song (or two) by Stevie himself.

I noticed that the '82 show was right at the peak of the 1981-82 'medley' trend, but forgot about 'Uptown Festival' from the '77 show.

1985 show should be available throughout Sunday starting with WFMX at 6 am. I assume that KABQ will be playing it at 2pm, correct?

KABQ is more consistent than the other station that airs both shows, KZOY. Next week would be 3 years of airing both shows for KABQ. KFLW (repeat) & WLKN (new time) should have 1985 show at 3 pm, along with WPAC at 4 eastern.

Speaking of Mr. Wonder, before his duet with Paul McCartney was announced on this week's 1982 show, I found it strange for Casey to call him "Steve Wonder". Probably a case of him just "reading his script". I can't imagine not calling him Stevie...Steve Wonder just sounds weird!

I know that Shalamar had a few top forty hits in the 80's such as "The Second Time Around" & "Dead Giveaway"-Wasn't their 1977 hit "Uptown Festival" performed by studio singers & musicians?

Yes; it wasn't until later that the the group of Jody Watley, Howard Hewett, and Jeffrey Daniels was assembled. Originally intended for touring, they recorded the group's later albums. Watley and Daniels had left by 1984 Hewett recorded their hit "Dancing In the Sheets" with two replacement members; Watley of course became even more successful as a solo artist.

I'm usually not a great fan of Long Distance Dedications, but I actually enjoyed both of them in the 4/17/82 show. Any dedication letter which requests a Jimmy Buffett song is worth hearing. And in the "Come Together" dedication, Melanie in West Woodstock, VT may be the only person ever who's publicly said she enjoyed getting her braces tightened; even people who don't mind wearing braces say the tightening is painful or at least unpleasant. (Personally I was able to avoid braces altogether when I was a teenager after an overzealous dental hygienist urged them, I objected, and my parents decided my teeth were in line enough that they weren't really needed and so took my side.)

4/23/88 was last played in 2010 with these optional extras: Hour #1: "Circle In The Sand" - Belinda Carlisle Hour #2: "We All Sleep Alone" - Cher Hour #3: "The Flame" - Cheap Trick Hour #4: "Pour Some Sugar On Me" - Def Leppard It's of course possible that they could be changed, maybe to hits from Shadoe-era countdowns we don't currently hear. I can see Rick Astley's "Together Forever" as a possible change based on what Premiere has been doing recently. "Circle In The Sand", "The Flame" & "Pour Some Sugar On Me" have been used as extras more than once. My guess is that the Cheap Trick song would be the odd man out in this situation.

I just heard 4/12/1986 with Guest Host Dave Roberts. I thought there were no guest hosts in the syndicated package of AT40 rebroadcasts. Show did not have the usual intro saying AT40's: The 80's or the regular closing credits. Did I hear the properly scheduled show, or was this some rouge broadcast?

Shalamar like Odyssey had a bunch of hits in the UK in the 80s that hit the UK top 20 but missed in the USA: I can make you feel good, A night to remember, Friends, Disappearing act and There it is. The big American hits like The second time around and Dancing in the sheets weren't UK top 40 hits.

Assuming it was on a Premiere affiliate or the iHeart Classic AT40 channel, it must have been either a mistake or somebody deciding to pay tribute to Roberts or change up the year offered (which might be of questionable legality.) The only guest hosted shows Premiere has offered so far were those hosted by Dick Clark (3/25/72) and Gary Owens (9/12/81) after they passed away in 2012 and 2015. Roberts too died recently, but he wasn't nearly as well known as Clark or Owens and if Premiere was going to make his show an option it presumably would have been announced in advance.
