Got an AT40 first on the 1981 show. First time 3 songs from the same non-soundtrack album have ever been on a regular show. Babs' Guilty Lp has its 2 duets between Barbra and Barry in the top 40 and "Woman in Love" is a LDD. I don't understand all the 1981 bashing. There was a lot of AWESOME music released that year! There are some songs I don't like but I guarantee there are a lot MORE songs I don't like from 85, 86, 87, or 88. I didn't like what the producers were doing to the general sound of a lot of the music. There are many artists whose music I thought was great in the early 80's but their sound became overproduced in the mid and late 80's. I agree--there was a lot of awesome music released in 1981. The chats from that year are another story...I feel like the charts that year were upside down so to speak. Often the best songs of '81 stayed down in the lower reaches of the Top 40 (or didn't make the 40 at all), while too much of the top 10 was often loaded with boring dreck like Air Supply, Country crossovers, bad John Lennon songs, etc. I find that I almost always enjoy the first 2-3 hours of those shows more than the top 10-15 songs.

Only there can I hear stuff radio stations dare not play to comply with decrees from corporate bosses who insist on the most overplayed top-10 songs that all stations play all the time regardless of genre!!

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess - 2/27/82 2nd Guess - 2/28/87
One of the longest gaps in the 80s series is the 3-show gap from 2/20/82 to 3/6/82...seems like it's time to break into that one. Might have considered 2/28/81, but 1981 is n getting the B show treatment this weekend...I don't see them offering '81 two weeks in a row.

The Bus will make stops at both 1981 and 1985. The 1985 will be this week's "AT40 Sunday Night Special."

Do you mean shows that haven't been aired yet? 2/20/82 was aired in 2008. The longest gap in the 80s series right now is the 3-show gap from 5/31/80 to 6/14/80. In addition, 6/21/80 is a guest-hosted show. That's the four weeks Funkytown was at #1.

^Something I have pointed out a couple times that "Funkytown" is the only song to spend at least 3 weeks at #1 during the time frame that Premiere is airing AT40 shows and never be featured in a show when it was #1. And it already had that distinction last year when the anniversaries of those shows came around.

About time they did 1986 ;D This is the show with the Challenger space shuttle dedication, I believe. Yes, it is... And the song played was "Come Sail Away". Thought I would hear the Lp version for the first time on AT40....the 3 hour era of the show caused it never to be played during its chart run. But they played the 45. BTW, the other LDD gave Survivor 2 songs in the final hour... "Burning Heart" at #9 and "The Search is Over" dedication. This is the 2/22/86 show.

Got an AT40 first on the 1981 show. First time 3 songs from the same non-soundtrack album have ever been on a regular show. Babs' Guilty Lp has its 2 duets between Barbra and Barry in the top 40 and "Woman in Love" is a LDD. Melanie, Marvin Gaye, Paul McCartney, Bee Gees and Diana Ross all had 3 songs in the top 40 itself previously on AT40. But none of those situations involved 3 songs from the same album although the Bee Gees did have their three from a soundtrack album. I was aware of the instances when Melanie, the Bee Gees and Diana Ross had three songs in the top 40 at the same time, but not Marvin Gaye and Paul McCartney. After studying each artist's chart data, I think I've figured out when each did it, although both instances merit an asterisk - neither was a straight example of an artist having three songs in the Top 40 at the same time. Gaye did this on 11/17/73. He had one single dropping ("Let's Get It On", #30 in its last week in the Top 40), one single rising ("Come Get To This", debuting at #39), and a duet with Diana Ross on the charts as well ("You're A Special Part Of Me", #12). So while Gaye had three hits in the Top 40 at the same time, one was a collaboration with another artist. The two solo hits were from the album Let's Get It On, while "You're A Special Part Of Me" was from an album of duets Ross and Gaye had released called Diana & Marvin. The two albums were released only about two months apart and significantly overlapped each other on the charts. McCartney did this for two weeks on 7/17/76 and 7/24/76. His current band Wings had one single dropping ("Silly Love Songs", which fell out of the Top 4 after 7/24) and one single rising ("Let 'Em In", which debuted on 7/17), while an archival release by his old band the Beatles was also in the Top 40 ("Got To Get You Into My Life"). So this was really a case of two bands with a common member collectively having three songs in the Top 40, with no one distinct act having more than two. The two Wings tracks were from the album Wings At The Speed Of Sound, while the Beatles cut was released in conjunction with the compilation album Rock 'n' Roll Music. I had always thought that the three songs Ross had in the Top 40 in 1980 were from the same album, but I checked and dukelightning is correct that they weren't. Two were from the album Diana ("Upside Down" and "I'm Coming Out"), while the third ("It's My Turn") was from a movie soundtrack. Aside from Ross, the only artist I am aware of who had three songs in the Top 40 during the '80s was New Kids On The Block, who did so for one week in November 1989. The three songs were from three different albums, and none were higher than #20. Two near misses in the '80s were Michael Jackson on 5/28/83 (songs at #3, #41 and #42) and Madonna on 5/4/85 (two songs in the Top 40 plus #41).
