Predictions for the stations with a history of playing the "B" shows: KOLA - 1985 - Played the '85 B show last month KOOL - 1985 - Usually passes on 1981 WFMX - 1985 - Has not passed on 1985 A shows KOKZ - 1985 - Won't pass on new '85 show. WKZG - 1985 - Played late 80s shows last 9 times KCCL - 1985 - Won't pass on new '85 show WMGN - 1985 - Once again avoids 1981 when other options available. KXGL - 1985 - After two B shows, goes with A WTIC - 1985 - Once again passes on early 80s show. WODC - Both shows - B show AM;A show PM;just like 2 weeks ago Stations that alternate 70s & 80s: WRIT - 1985 - Passed on 1981 three weeks ago. KODS - 1981 - Won't play 1985, could play 1976. WPAC - 1976 - Plays late 70s shows. Almost nobody will play the 1981 show--hardly anyone ever plays the 'B' show when the 'A' is '85 (same for mid-late 1982 and early-mid 1986). Another indication of why it's a little ridiculous that Premiere offers alternates for 1985. It's a pretty good bet that the only stations that will play the 1981 show are those that play both shows. For me personally, it's the opposite ends of the spectrum with these two shows--2/23/85 is from one of my favorite parts of the 80's while February 1981 would rank as one of the weakest periods of the 80s.

Matt - I agree on all of your points. 1985 was an outstanding musical year. Early 1981 - yikes.
There is no need for a B show this week. If the main show offering is 1982-1986, there really is no need. Late 1981 and mid 1987, IMO, are the turning points of the decade, with 82-86 being the sweet spot for "80s music"

If I were in charge of Premiere's AT40s, I'd only offer 80s B's when the A is from 1980-81 or 1987-88 (and 1989 if that were offered.)

The only way I'd play a 1981 B show is if the A show were 1980. Obviously that defeats the purpose and isn't happening.

I don't understand all the 1981 bashing. There was a lot of AWESOME music released that year! There are some songs I don't like but I guarantee there are a lot MORE songs I don't like from 85, 86, 87, or 88. I didn't like what the producers were doing to the general sound of a lot of the music. There are many artists whose music I thought was great in the early 80's but their sound became overproduced in the mid and late 80's.

KOLA 99.9 does it again and actually went the B repeat show route of 2/21/81 from only two years ago (2014) this time when they should have gone with a new show in 2/23/85! www.kolafm.com/casey-kasem/Casey Kasem: The 80’s For the weekend of February 20th, Casey will feature the American Top 40 for the chart date of February 21, 1981

^I guess history repeats itself. I remember this from a year ago: Oh, wow. Well once again, I'm shocked as at least one station will play 2/16/80, never thought KOLA 99.9 out of Redlands, CA, would air it as their new format better suits 2/16/85, idiots! www.kolafm.com/amp-events/casey-kasem-the-80s-5/Casey Kasem: The 80’s This Saturday, Casey will feature the American Top 40 (Chart Date February 16, 1980). I think it was the only station to play 2/16/80 that weekend.

Likely because they played 1985 a month ago when it was the B show.

WMGN passed on the previous eight 1981 shows. The station has not aired a new A show in nearly 5 months. That new show was from 1985. KCLH always airs A shows. The station does air the specials when available. KOKZ is going with 1985. www.1057kokz.com/
