This weeks show was interesting to me because it was Stevie Nicks' fourth and final week on the chart with "Nightbird". The song was her third single from her second solo album "The Wild Heart". I found it odd that the song charted so low. The two previous singles, "Stand Back" and "If Anyone Falls" had done well. But "Nightbird" only got to #33. It's also interesting to note that Stevie only performed the song live twice, once on Solid Gold and the other was her December 1983 appearance on Saturday Night Live. It was never done during any of her concert sets.

Dave, I am probably second to you when it comes to complaining about edits. But I am not all talk and no action. The action I took on this week's 70s show is I record the show and I record it in segments. If the segment is edit free or the edit is rather insignificant, I let it go. If there is an edit or even if there is none but there is an Lp version I would rather hear, I edit in the longer song. Takes a little extra time. But guess what, at the end of the day, I have a show that has insignificant or no edits. For the record, I edited in 13 longer songs on that 1977 show. (Which is about the most I ever edit in btw; but there were many classic rock songs with longer Lp versions in the show). This is not as much of an issue in 80s shows however, Premiere edits notwithstanding. I would assume a lot of those edits were originals because the songs were getting longer and the show was still only 3 hours. The first 77 and 78 show I ever heard on the original LPs I had I was surprised how many edits there were but time was the reason. But I guess these edits are acceptable since they were done 40 years ago. Edits now are demonic, evil, and take candy from children.

This is the second week in a row that we've had a show with Casey explaining dreams to us. (Last week it was in conjunction with Heart's "These Dreams", this week with Irene Cara's "The Dream".) Note how he mentioned rapid eye movement--or REM. I wonder if he ever talked about this subject on any countdown when that band was on the chart? Not sure, but I want to think Shadoe did? For some reason, I feel like I've heard him do that in one of the Shadoe shows that I have.

I believe that Casey talked about REM sleep in spring, 1989 when "Stand" was on the chart.

With next weekend's offering being 1985, this means February 1985 will have been exhausted. Not sure if February 2, 1985 has previously aired, and if so, when. I'd say it's a toss-up between 1982 or 1987 to close out February. I hope it's 1987. Actually, 1980 and 1981 haven't had a turn yet this year. Of course, since 2/21/81 is next week's "B" show, that might blow that one out of the water, even though 2/28 hasn't been featured yet. 1980 might have to wait until March, though, as the 2/23 show has already been featured twice. March 8 hasn't been featured yet, so we might hear that one, most likely the weekend of 3/5. As for the final week of February, 1982 or 1987 are indeed ideal, as both late February shows for those two years (2/26 and 2/28, respectively) have yet to be played, so I'll echo your predictions, with 1987 being most likely.

However, it wasn't told with REM's "Stand", it was told with Vanessa Williams' "Dreamin'"

The story that Casey told, also tying in with the Vanessa Williams song, was the Top Five most common dreams. As I recall they were being late to somewhere or for something, being naked in public, being able to fly, falling, and being chased.

Just curious... Somewhat new to this and trying to learn... Thanks...

I use SoundTap although I know others on here use other devices to record. And when I say 'edit', it is not a special action. I am just referring to editing in the longer version of the song. Now you also need a joiner/merger device to combine what you recorded. Because as an example, you want to keep Caseys intros and outros intact. So you have to merge his intro with the longer version of the song and then, the outro of the song. I use Meda mp3 joiner for that purpose. I would also recommend Windows 8 or higher. Before my previous pc crashed last year, I was running Windows XP and recording was not as precise as it needed to be.
Too bad you can't attach audio clips on here else I would attach one of one my edited segments. Good luck!

I didn't realize there was any kind of decent mp3 editing program available. The way I've done it is to use an audio editing program like Pro Tools. This will take a longer time converting back and forth between the compressed mp3 format to a more easily editable version like wav for the audio files -- before and after you fix the song(s) into the full countdown. You can get extremely precise with Pro Tools. If you don't have the mp3 export option in Pro Tools, then you will re-save the bounced/rendered longplay file as a wav file and use another program like Sound Grinder (or whatever) to convert the longplay wav into the compressed mp3. (addressing anyone who's complaining about wollenberg) btw .. even being newer on this board than many of you, I dont mind the complaints about the edits. I have no idea how many of you have a background in music or are musicians (or if wollenberg is) but edits -- especially bad ones from 30 or 40yrs ago or ones made last year -- do jump out at me. I'm not going to post about the edits but I don't think he's being a jerk or offensive. I'd just say give the guy a break and just don't respond.

Anyone can complain about edits all they want. There is a thread that was created specifically to discuss edits/looping. Do the conversation there, rather than clutter the general thread.

Honest question - do you work for that station? Or are you affiliated with them in any way? Here are my honest answers... - I don't work for 105.1 The River or iHeart Media.
- I'm not affiliated with the station or iHeart Media.
- I'm just another loyal listener.
