So is it known what other stations, besides WEZG, are playing the 1980 show this week? WRIT, which plays a 3-hour version, seems to be the only other one for sure thus far. KOKZ seems a likely bet, but we'll see. Everybody else - either we don't know yet or they're doing 1988.

I don't get it either. 1985 is right in the middle of the decade, for crying out loud.
Anyway, predictions for extras:
Like a Surgeon - Weird Al Yankovic Don't Lose My Number - Phil Collins Cherish - Kool & The Gang Money For Nothing - Dire Straits

Another head scratcher. Since everything from 83-86 is considered the sweet spot for 80s music, I can't believe some station will be so outraged at the '85 offering, they chose '84 instead. Believe it or not both KOLA & KGOR did exactly that in April when the "A" show was 04/06/85 & the "B" show was 04/07/84. KOLA seems to opt for the "B" shows that other stations will not carry like the 02/16/80 show. KOLA was the only station to carry that show over the 02/16/85 program.

To each their own but I love the 88 shows. Enjoy them while they last .

From my music programming mind, pairing a 1980 with an 86 or 87 or vice versa makes sense. But pairing 85 with 84 (or thinking either needs an alternative) just doesn't make sense to me. I feel like 1983 and 1984 are the only standalone years now, when late 1982 to mid 1986 could easily work as standalones.

So it looks like my predictions for July rebroadcasts are now 3 for 3 so far. If 1986 airs next weekend, this will mean that all the shows I predicted for July will have been right.
Plus, since it's evident that we most likely won't be getting a 1984 "A" show in July, I have a good feeling we're going to be getting the August 25, 1984 show for our next 1984 "A" show, since everything else from August 1984 has aired in recent years.

Leaving aside the question of why 1985 (or 1986, or much of 1982) needs an alternate, it would have made more sense to switch this week's and next week's B shows. 1988/84 and 1985/80 are far enough apart to provide real choices for stations that gravitate toward (or don't favour) one end of the decade or another. As others have said, what's so different about 1984 and 1985?

Here's the Pump & Dump for 7/20/85. 1. Kenny Loggins "Forever" (It's odd that 4 of his 5 Top 10 songs were from movies) 2. Don Henley "Not Enough Love In The World" (Like follow-up "Sunset Grill" this one deserved better) 3. Daryl Hall & John Oates "Possession Obsession" (After going from 81- early 85 having 12 of 13 songs go Top 10 this was the 2nd of 6 of their last 7 Top 40 hits to miss the Top 10) 4. Supertramp "Cannonball" (Another act that I was surprised to see only had 2 Top 10 songs) Now for the dump I may get crap for this but I'm going to go with "Find A Way" by Amy Grant (Although not as overplayed as her late 80's/early 90's pop/crossover songs if I want to hear a find a way song it would be Yes's 1987 song "LOVE WILL Find A Way")

Catchy song with a positive message that doesn't get preachy. I'd do the same with "Getcha Back", "State of the Heart", and agree on "Forever". (Fun fact: "Forever" was used twice as an LDD, in 1986 and 1990, which is more weeks than it actually charted on AT40. Seemed hard to believe in retrospect, as it got AC recurrent play for years.) Several other songs in here made the top 20, or even top 10, but should have gone higher. Nothing here I'd really dump, though I think "Never Surrender" is a bit dull (though with a good message) and don't think we really needed an overly loud remake of "Bang a Gong/Get It On" (the original really can't be improved upon). The late Tony Thompson, formerly of Chic and then Power Station, was a very powerful drummer, but sheesh, here he doesn't let you forget it.
