Star 107.9 playing 6/29/85 No offense but your avatar is scaring the hell out of me Oh, sorry. It's meant to be funny. I captured this photo from an article on my USA Today app. It was about an ugly dog contest. I was considering changing it before you commented so I think now I will.

Sorry, I shouldn't have said anything. Things you learn from listening to AT40:Bryan Adams was at that point, the 13th Canadian to have a number one in the states. Who knew?

Why can't stations give us extras that are proportionate to the decade of the shows? Don't know ANY of these extras that are given us, while the local ads play. The short answer is some of these stations can't find their ass with both hands. I have a local station whose stream runs ads from a car dealership 1000 miles away. I emailed and asked WTH? They responded that it was an error because the stream is programmed from different city, also 1000 miles away. Apparently no one local bothers to listen in to make sure everything is working. And it isn't limited to radio. A local low powered TV group's stations were down the entire weekend of the 4th. I assume the auto pilot crapped out and they have no actual humans working on a holiday weekend to check in from time to time to make sure everything is functioning. You call the station and there is no answer. You leave a message on the station's FB page and there is no response there either. It is soooo frustrating. As long as the money is flowing in, I guess nobody cares anymore about the quality of product they are putting out. I don't know if i would say the stations themselves can't find their ass with their hands. The actual folks lucky enough to still be employed at the local level are 9 times out of 10 hard working, and although they may be overworked and jaded about the current state of the business, still have passion and love for radio. It's the folks above them that make decisions that oftentimes are the ones out of touch. They are the ones ruining radio.

Since next week's 1985 show is new, does anyone know what song #6 might be since it's not on the cue sheet?
Still my personal choice as the best year of that decade which marked the highest ratings and levels of listenership ever for the format before the wheels came off the format a few years later, leading to the disastrous nineties as over 100 stations bailed from the format between 1989 & 2003.

Here's the Pump & Dump for 7/20/85. 1. Kenny Loggins "Forever" (It's odd that 4 of his 5 Top 10 songs were from movies) 2. Don Henley "Not Enough Love In The World" (Like follow-up "Sunset Grill" this one deserved better) 3. Daryl Hall & John Oates "Possession Obsession" (After going from 81- early 85 having 12 of 13 songs go Top 10 this was the 2nd of 6 of their last 7 Top 40 hits to miss the Top 10) 4. Supertramp "Cannonball" (Another act that I was surprised to see only had 2 Top 10 songs) Now for the dump I may get crap for this but I'm going to go with "Find A Way" by Amy Grant (Although not as overplayed as her late 80's/early 90's pop/crossover songs if I want to hear a find a way song it would be Yes's 1987 song "LOVE WILL Find A Way") I won't give you crap, but I'd actually pump "Find a Way". Catchy song with a positive message that doesn't get preachy. I'd do the same with "Getcha Back", "State of the Heart", and agree on "Forever". (Fun fact: "Forever" was used twice as an LDD, in 1986 and 1990, which is more weeks than it actually charted on AT40. Seemed hard to believe in retrospect, as it got AC recurrent play for years.) Several other songs in here made the top 20, or even top 10, but should have gone higher. Nothing here I'd really dump, though I think "Never Surrender" is a bit dull (though with a good message) and don't think we really needed an overly loud remake of "Bang a Gong/Get It On" (the original really can't be improved upon). The late Tony Thompson, formerly of Chic and then Power Station, was a very powerful drummer, but sheesh, here he doesn't let you forget it. I was going to put "Getcha Back" & say I'd rather hear it than the overplayed "Kokomo" & was going to put " State Of The Heart". As for "Find A Way" I will say it was mainly picked as I was trying to find a song after failing for the last few weeks. I guess I should've picked nothing. It's a lot easier in the early 80's shows as their always seems to be one easy song to pick.

Casey made a mistake when he said that Naked Eyes' 'Promises, promises' made the top 10. Came up 1 notch short, at #11.
