I am not surprised we're going to get a 1983 show for the first regular show of 2015. Though I do admit, we are long overdue for a 1983 show after not hearing one since October. It is true that we haven't heard 1983 since October, but with this 1983 show we'll he bearing some of the same songs we heard on the 11/27/1982 show.

Here is a question that's probably been asked but how do stations like MIX 94.9 Tucson, AZ (which is a mess to listen to online anyway) that carry the 3 hour version of the 80's show do the year-end shows playing the 3 hours of part 1 is ok (I guess) part playing the last 3 hours of the 2nd part missing #'s 50-37 or so is going to sound really dumb.

That is exactly what KMXZ (Mix 94.9) is doing right now. They did not run hour 1 of either part of the 1980 year end show. They did, however, run all eight hours of the Top 100 of 1984 on New Year's Day.

I gave up on that station a long time ago. Do they still do (at least on-line anyway) it stats at 10 central time it plays till midnight then it cuts out in the middle of a song seems to play at least 5 minutes of ads plays a song does more ads & play Five For Fighting's "100 Years" it never fails but it never goes back to the countdown.

I don't know since for me they are local and over-the-air. I do know that they usually end early, around 11:45MST. I usually listen to the '80s show online on Friday so when I have them on on Saturday night it is just background music as I'm falling asleep, as I did last night around 11. I did check their online stream on Thursday when they were playing the '84 Top 100 all day to see if it was working, which it was and I duly noted as such when I posted. They never played the first hour of the '80s show ever since they switched from '70s to '80s three years ago. They also have never played the extras, which they did play on Thursday.

Wow -- looked like "All Right" by Christopher Cross was -- given the way it started out -- going to be a huge smash, but as we all know, a high debut does not necessarily mean a quick rise to No. 1, an extended run atop the chart and then a slow fall from No. 1 that about equals its total time at No. 1.
But just the same, here come the extras:
* "All Right" -- Christopher Cross. * "Back on the Chain Gang" -- The Pretenders. * "I Know There's Something Going On" -- Frida (formerly of ABBA). * "Hungry Like the Wolf" -- Duran Duran.
A couple of backup extras, including a real curveball -- no, not a country song, but ... :
In tribute to Joe Cocker ... and I don't know how far in advance these shows are prepared, but since it just fell off the top 40 (from NO. 28 last week):
* "Up Where We Belong" -- Joe Cocker and Jennifer Warnes.
And a song from a young lady who made it only to No. 107 on the Bubbling Under portion of the chart. A year later, she had her first top 20 hit ... two years later, "Like a Virgin" made her a superstar and there was no looking back. For now, she was just a dance chart sensation:
* "Everybody" -- Madonna.
BTW: The country song that I could have considered was Michael Martin Murphey's "Still Taking Chances." Which, incidentally, wasn't too different sounding than Christopher Cross' "All Right," but that's just my opinion.

I'm curious would everyone else like to hear 70's & 80's episodes even though it's weeks where Casey had a guest host. For example I'd like to hear Wink Martindale host as I only remember him from hosting game shows & I would like to hear the January 12 1980 show with Mike Cleary featuring the only AT40 playing of "Rappers Delight". Yes! Even though he wouldn't classify as a guest host, but as a regular, I would love to see Premiere start playing AT40s from August 1988- December 1989 with Shadoe Stevens. I, along with multitudes of people would vouch for that.. Premiere, are u reading these posts? All Larry Morgan has to say during the end credits is ' and thank you to Shadoe Stevens filling in for Casey.' No complaints from anybody. And same holds true for perhaps 3 or 4 shows during the year hosted by Charlie Van Dyke. This has been talked to death really since 2007. Not going to happen. And yes, you would hear listener complaints. And no, Larry would not say Shadoe was "filling in"

Only purists would complain, that's 'Casey Kasem's American top 40'. We in the vast majority, would love to hear non-Casey-hosted shows.

I agree. I think the people who occasionally listen to the show might complain, including the owners/managers of radio stations who provide the show to their listeners but don't actually hear all the shows themselves.. It's most of us who have listened to all the shows so far who would like to occasionally hear a non-repeat, which most likely would have to be guest hosted.. And 88-89 are good years of music that would greatly be appreciated, no matter who is the host.

I personally would like to hear the Keri Tombazian-hosted 1, to get a woman's perspective on the 40.

OK, Brett. We get it. You're among the minority against non-Casey hosted shows.

I'm actually not at all. I enjoy the guest hosted shows and most of them are excellent broadcasts. But I also understand why, as a business decision, not airing them or the Shadoe shows is the only way to go for Premiere. I can't even count the number of times this exact discussion is had each year by the same people.
Based on the success the shows have, I completely understand why Premiere would never air a non-Casey show as a part of the series, outside of the Dick Clark show in 2012. It just wouldn't be a good move, even though all of us would enjoy it. Listeners want familiarity and they want Casey. It was different during the original run, as the current chart was the top priority. Now it is nostalgia and casual listeners just want to hear Casey.
