Good point, but there was no bubbling under chart from mid-August 1985 through November 1992, a little more than seven years. We can only guess at the songs that would have bubbled under during that period. I was 25 in 1986, so I was listening to adult contemporary radio more. It would be like me choosing Gordon LIghtfoot's then-current AC hit "Anything for Love" as an optional extra. I'd guess it would have peaked at 108-112 if there had been a Bubbling Under chart in August 1986. The same goes for Neil Diamond's "The Story of My Life," an AC-only song that did receive some airplay on a pop station near me 28 years ago. And I have to think that's a big reason why there were very few crossover songs that made the Hot 100, even in "Bubbling Under" form. I'd say it'd be safe to say that some of the country songs that would have made the Hot 100's Bubbling Under chart would have been those that did well on the adult contemporary chart. Y'know, songs by Anne Murray, Dan Seals, Kenny Rogers, Restless Heart, Ronnie Milsap and a few others. This is just my opinion, and I've probably said it before, but the "extras" should sometimes be a curveball song. I'd personally like to see one a week – sometimes a lesser-charting song by a currently popular artist, sometimes artists with track records in CHR that are now charting on a fragmented chart (not just country, but R&B, modern rock, etc.) … or sometimes just that song you heard once or twice 30 years ago by a band that never did have a real bonafide hit and it's stuck in your head all these years even though you've never heard it again. I agree with you on the curveball song, but it will be based on the song or track, not the artist. You also have to aware of Premiere's pattern of picking obscure songs for extras.

Well, since you brought up the artist and song thing … I did throw in a couple of curveballs for the 1970s show being played this week (a never-before played Aug. 16, 1975 show that featured the Eagles rebounding from No. 4 to No. 2 on "One of These Nights"). The songs were by: • Keith Carradine and "I'm Easy," because it bubbled under for just one week at No. 107, looked like it was resigned to obscurity until it was featured in the movie "Nashville," and then on its re-release a year later got up to No. 17 on the Hot 100 and was No. 1 on the adult contemporary chart. Surprisingly, given its country folkish sound, it never charted on the country chart. • Michael Martin Murphey, who did have a top 25 hit in the early fall of 1975 with " Carolina in the Pines." It would rechart again as a country song in 1985. And both were longshot/curveball extras for me. In any case, it wouldn't hurt to have an extra once in awhile based on the singer, but that's just my opinion. Kinda like the example that was given of an R&B-only track by two artists that had a long Hot 100 history … . Brian

Brian The country music 'establishment's intense dislike of Robert Altman's movie could have had something to do with that. The movie (which I love but have not seen in decades) did not portray the movers and shakers of the Nashville music industry in a favorable light, and they returned the hatred.

Prediction for next week's show:
1st Guess: 8/24/85 2nd Guess: 8/22/81
It's a pretty good bet that we will hear these two years in the next two weeks--just a matter of which order. I'm going with '85 this week and '81 next since Premiere hasn't yet played the 8/29/81 show, and wishful thinking that they will play that show. 1985 would be a repeat whether it's played this week or next (and apparently they've played the heck out of the 8/31/85 show on the iheart channel--not sure if that figures into it?).

I went in the opposite order, Matt. Considering that 8/24/85 and 8/22/81 both aired in 2010, while 8/31/85 hasn't been aired since 2008, I went with the latter. That leaves a previously-unaired 8/29/81 for the final weekend of August.

I just checked the at40fan.info site for available shows... has anyone else noticed that there are only three unaired shows available for the month of September? The shows are 9/24/83, and two from 1986, 9/6/86 and 9/27/86. There are nine unaired October shows with one show available each year from 1980 thru 1985 plus 1987. November has eight available shows which could be aired for the first time, and if my math is correct, December has nine unaired shows (I'm excluding the first half of the Hot 100 of 1982 countdown here).

I forgot again: is this (1986) show past KOKZ's cutoff? dL I don't think so. If memory serves, the cutoff date has since moved up to early '87.

I think this is a first... I went 0 for 4 with this week's 80s extras, and 0 for 3 with the 70s show. I feel like a song that's holding at #41 with no bullet.
