Is "Billboard's Hottest 100 Hits" the book which offers a retrospective recap of the top Hot 100 hits of each year? I'd use it as a fairly definitive source of the top hits of each year from 1958-91 (free of the cutoff date issues and other problems that plagued the original year end charts), but not since. It's the book that had this grand idea "Whoomp! There It Is" is the #1 song of the rock era. And IIRC wasn't "Age of Aquarius" #2?!

It all depends on which edition you use. I have the one from 1991 which is good because it is before the Soundscan era. So you can get a good reading of the top hits from that 1958-91 period that mkarns alluded to. It's still not perfect because the 50s are over represented at the top due to the charts being a lot slower then too. "The Twist" is #1 and 2-8 are all from the 50s before "You Light Up My Life" and "Physical" round out the top 10. But if you want to find out the biggest hit by an artist from the 70s and 80s, it is the go to book IMO. i.e. the Bee Gees biggest hits are "How Deep is Your Love" at 13, "Stayin Alive" at 42 and "Night Fever" at 47. Makes it pretty obvious what their biggest hit was. In the year end survey Billboard did, HDIYL was cutoff and ranked lower than the other 2 songs.

Please forgive me if the following question is inappropriately presented here, but I just could not justify creating a new thread for such a random, minor query...
I am seeking a show from what I think almost has to be from April or May of 1985 that features Casey's brief yet poignant introduction of The Commordores hit Nightshift - his leading statement was something like (quoting a band member) 'The song could have been about anyone... but we wanted it to be about these two.'
The song is one of my absolute favorites and I would really welcome having this particular show in my collection, so if anyone can offer any insight, I would be most grateful!
Thank you so much!! It's from the 5/4/1985 show, which aired in 2012. I am so very grateful for the clarification, JMW! Thanks to my show benefactor, I now finally have a copy of this much-coveted countdown!

Yeah, I probably pushed it a little too far there. Then again, you didn't call out Rick for his response to what I said about him, but whatever!

I know that I'm 2 weeks late & this wasn't a prompt reply, but this post is just so laughable. First off, I was never a member of Future Rock Legends. I'm hiding behind nothing, so you obviously got that one wrong. Secondly, how dare you call me a cyberbully & how dare you call me a troll! IMO, you are the cyberbully & you are the troll, not me! You were the one who decided to get ELO in FRL's Hall Of Fame Revisited by using multiple screen names. How did that work out? Speaking of the most overrated UK band since the Beatles (yeah I said it), let me ask you this & I want an answer. Out of the 400+ posts that you posted here, how many of them mention ELO? It's like you talk about them all the friggin' time! My favorite band of all time is Chicago, but I don't talk about them in each & every post here. Unfortunately, you cannot take criticism. I was just asking why you're liking everybody's posts here. I was also saying that it is annoying, which is true. IMO, maybe online message boards aren't fun anymore because of people like you. Maybe everyone at Future Rock Legends hates your guts. And you're the one calling me a cyberbully & a troll? So why don't you "FO", Special Ed! (BTW, I apologize to everyone here for posting this on the forum. I know I could've sent a PM to ELO fanboi instead, but if someone slanders me by calling me a cyberbully & a troll on these boards, they're going to hear it from me in public. I've been a member here for almost 5 years, yet Rick the Retard has only been a member for 2 years & he thinks that I'm the troll. I'm just trying to bring some normalcy back to these boards.) Yes, you could have sent a PM. The fact that you acknowledge that and still chose not to (nevermind that you called him "ELO fanboi" at the same time), negates everything else you have to say here. But if you choose to dig your own grave here by subsequently having it out with me over this - then by all means: Bring it on, Sir. I'd actually prefer you not do so, and I wouldn't be surprised if the majority here feel the same way. But that is 100% up to you and you alone.

In other findings this weekend... There's been many opportunities for this to happen, but it's only now that we hear both versions of "Always On My Mind" on back-to-back weekends, thanks to Premiere picking the Pet Shop Boys cover for an extra last week.

Would this week's show be the first time Through the Years was used in a LDD?
ETA: And after a few weeks off, the Total Transformation commercial is back.

Would this week's show be the first time Through the Years was used in a LDD? Nope - on 3/13 it was still in the 40 but doubled as a LDD that week. That, incidentally, I'm thinking has to be one of the first instances of a countdown song doubling as a LDD on a given week.

Ugh...CKPE's automation (and extra loading of Canadian extras) keeps fading out show segments early. Switching to WGHN...

Actually, I've heard it during the 80s show for those few weeks. I hate that commercial and wish I could slam the door in its face. I'd almost rather hear the "MOM, PLEASE! GET! OFF! THE! PHONE!" State Farm Commercial. I'm sure that soon after the Total Transformation commercial goes away another ad that will eventually end up being run ad nauseum will come along.

I remember something like this happening back in June 2012 with "Funkytown" - a 1987 show aired on June 23, 2012 with the cover version by Pseudo Echo, and the original by Lipps Inc. was heard on a rebroadcast from 1980 the following weekend on June 30, 2012. I remember someone commenting on this forum in late-June 2012 about "back-to-back Funkytowns".
