"Tainted Love"? Didn't see that coming. In truth, it does have the unusual distinction of being available as an OE for four full months even using Premiere's most traditional standard for optional extras (a song moving up the Hot 100 eventually to reach the top 40), with the bonus quality of being widely known and played today. I am thinking this is maybe the 3rd or 4th time since 2011 that "Tainted Love" has been aired as an extra. I am pretty sure it was aired during one of the January 1982 shows...

I'm really hoping for 1987 next week, then 1980 the week after.

Oh, the intrigue. Which year would that be and why? OK, so full disclosure, the year I consider a lock for the week of April 12th (1982) could actually be aired next as well--guessing that we will for sure hear 1982 in the next two weeks (it is more or less a certainty that either 4/3/82 or 4/10/82 will be played, as a 1982 show will almost have to be played in April, and PRN aired 4/17/82 last year and 4/24/82 in 2012, so either of those are likely a non-possibility this time around). I'm thinking we hear '80 or '87 next week with 4/10/82 the following week (4/10/82 has yet to be aired), or we get 4/3/82 (which last aired in 2010) next week and '80 or '87 the following week. Guessing 1980 either gets played in the next two weeks or has to wait until May (since 4/19/80 aired in 2011 and 4/26/80 in 2012). The next 1980 show could be a repeat. If they don't do it next week, then, since Premiere has already aired 1980 the shows for the next six weeks after, a repeat would be almost certain, unless they wait until May 31. However, 1987 might be in store for next week, since April 18 was done just two years ago, and April 26 was done three times already (and, for reasons I have already mentioned, I'm rooting for the April 11 show next week!)

Yes "Fame" is easily David Bowie's biggest hit. No other song (as of April 1982) had come anywhere near #1. But to say "Young Americans" and "Space Oddity" along with it are his 3 biggest hits is wrong. "Golden Years" peaked higher and had more weeks on the chart the YA or SO and it wasn't even close.

'Tainted' spent 18 weeks climbing the Hot 100, before it FINALLY debuted in the 40.

Yahoo!-I correctly predicted three of the optional extras.

The best way to determine that is look at the HOTTEST HOT 100 HITS book that ranks all the songs of the rock era and it's not even close.....Let's Dance came in at 488 and Fame was 1060. But some people can argue that "Let's Dance" benefited from a slower chart in the early almost mid-80s than the mid 70s. In which case, I always use the year end chart rankings if neither was cutoff which neither was. And "Fame" was #8 for 1975 while "Let's Dance" was #17 for 1983. So it's a tough call but with the second week at #1, I guess it would have to be "Fame".

Yeah I'm going to use that book to ascertain any legitimate conclusion to anything!

Well it's better than any Joel Whitburn book. Let's rank the top 200 hits of the rock era says Joel and voila....all but 1 of the top 24 are from the last 20 years! Gee I wonder why! Could it be that the methodology changed to allow songs to chart for a lot longer both at #1 and on the chart itself than previously. His books are great except when it comes to ranking songs of the rock era.

Is "Billboard's Hottest 100 Hits" the book which offers a retrospective recap of the top Hot 100 hits of each year? I'd use it as a fairly definitive source of the top hits of each year from 1958-91 (free of the cutoff date issues and other problems that plagued the original year end charts), but not since.
