"One Bad Apple" was #1 for SIX weeks on WABC's music survey, and finished at #2 for the entire year, just behind "Joy to the World"

Listening to AT 40 the 70's as Casey announces "Le Freak" is the third biggest mover within the Top 40. I am sure most people would have expected that it would be next week's #1 song but after a 31 point leap only took a 2 point movement. One more tidbit--"Le Freak" would be the only song to drop in and out of the #1 spot three times.

I heard the 11/25/1978 show when it originally aired. At that time when Casey first mentioned that that week's biggest's mover jumps up 31 notches, I was willing to bet money that it would be The Bee Gees' "Too Much Heaven" (which debuted on the entire Hot 100 at #35 the previous week). They were the biggest act around at that time and the song was their first hit after their phenomenal "Saturday Night Fever" hits run. Needless to say, I was surprised when it only moved up 4 notches to #31. I was curious to see "Le Freak"'s path to #1 in Cash Box and it went like this: 37-27-17-3-1.

OE predictions for Briguy (Brian), Paul Davis, Ride 'em, cowboy'; 'Crash' Craddock, 'Ruby, baby'; curveball from Charley Pride, 'Mississippi cotton pickin' delta town'. Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! Best post you've ever had Dave. Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! Hahahaha … not funny. OK, I was thinking of one of those songs for a possible extra, but I'm going to give another country crossover curveball and then a remake of a song. • The same song: "Ride 'em Cowboy" – Paul Davis. OK, not too bad – it was his breakthrough and gets some classic hits/oldies airplay. • The remake: "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" – Elton John. (Although it's 6 minutes long, so I dunno how they'd make it an extra unless it's truncated right after the second chorus and goes right into the finale.) • The curveball: " The Credit Card Song" – Dick Feller. Because a lot of people are using them this time of the year and running up big charges. Very relevant today! Backup: "My Eyes Adored You" – Frankie Valli. Brian

Couple of trivia bits on Dick Feller:
• He wrote many songs for artists including (most notably) Jerry Reed and Johnny Cash. • Several of the songs from the "Smokey and the Bandit" soundtrack were co-written by Feller and Reed. • One of his best known hits as a songwriter was a top 40 pop hit (and a top 10 country hit) for John Denver in 1981: "Some Days Are Diamonds (Some Days Are Stone)," a song that was different than the novelty songs Feller was known for.

The "Holiday Edition I" coming up this week is a retitled "Christmas Around The World." It's also known as "An American Top 10 Christmas." It's not a countdown but it's a mighty good list of holiday classics. Casey also talks about Christmas in other parts of the world, explains why people kiss under the mistletoe and discusses the origin of the Christmas tree. I'm sure some of those stories are on the "American Top 20" specials as well. I can only guess that "Holiday Edition II" will be another show that's aired over the years with a new title, that is not a countdown but music and stories, which is pretty nice. I remember one called "Christmas At The Movies" last year, which could have gone by any title, since only certain songs on the list were from movies.
1974 is coming up on the regular show. I'll be listening for that. I love that list. Lots of great memories on that one!

Oddball extra/tiebreaker: Heavy Fallin' Out-Stylistics (just missed the top 40 but received a lot of airplay on our local station--I thought this was a big hit for sure). Great tune -- got significant airplay in NYC. I always felt that any Stylistics tune that was not a ballad got short shrift at radio, except for "Rockin' Roll Baby". Once disco got going they had some excellent club hits.

OEs for 11/30/1974 Hour #1: "Please Mr. Postman" - The Carpenters Hour #2: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" - Elton John Hour #3: "Never Can Say Goodbye" - Gloria Gaynor Think it was mrjukebox that guessed two correctly ("Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "Never Can Say Goodbye"). I don't believe anyone thought of the Carpenters, but lots of us were correct -- I was one of them -- in predicting Elton John. Brian

OEs for 11/30/1974 Hour #1: "Please Mr. Postman" - The Carpenters Hour #2: "Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds" - Elton John Hour #3: "Never Can Say Goodbye" - Gloria Gaynor And all three were remakes, in what may be the first ever such selection of optional extras. Those are on top of five remakes in the countdown itself, as Casey pointed out.
