Prediction for next week's show:
1st guess: 12/8/79 (could also be 12/1/79, but 12/8 is closer to the current date) 2nd guess: 12/8/73
We're due for a '79 show, and overdue for a December '79 show. Première has only ever played one show from that month--and that was 12/22/79 in 2011.

I'll also go with 12/8/79 for next week's show.

Think it was mrjukebox that guessed two correctly ("Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" and "Never Can Say Goodbye"). I don't believe anyone thought of the Carpenters, but lots of us were correct -- I was one of them -- in predicting Elton John. Brian Briguy... two pages back, I predicted the Carpenters, Gloria Gaynor and Frankie Valli (oops on that last pick). I was the only one to guess The Carpenters... but you being the only person to pick "The Elvis Medley" as an optional extra for this weekend's 80s show... and then having it be one of the extras this weekend... that's a mighty fine pick! This is the second time this year I have not selected an obvious pick for an OE simply because I felt the song would be too long to feature. I didn't pick "Band On The Run" by Wings earlier this year as I didn't think they would play a song that clocked in at 5 minutes... they did. They are doing it again this weekend with a long song... so much for my "long songs won't get selected as optional extras" theory . Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

The amount of stations that play 4 hours is even more limited in December due to stations flipping to XMas music. If this is played, hopefully KOKZ doesn't decide to switch. But we still need one or two other stations in case something happens to the first hour on KOKZ.

KOKZ has two competitors in the area (three if you count the Christian AC on 101.9) that have already pulled the holiday switch. Black Friday is almost history as I post this, and if they haven't done it by now, they ain't. dL

Didn't know whether to expect another installment of the #1 songs of the 70's over the Thanksgiving holiday or not. I guess with the number of stations switching to Christmas music and using the alternate shows each week - it wasn't a good time to offer another segment of the #1 songs of the seventies.
Wouldn't expect one over Christmas either for the same reasons. Maybe we'll get one for New Years.

He said maybe Memorial Day weekend (If I am remembering correctly. Someone please confirm or correct).

Potentially good news if we get a December 1979 show.

I am listening to the 1974 show, and there was just a commercial for the new Taylor Swift album--I've got to laugh about that--they must be trying to encourage 53-yesr-old parents (like yours truly) to buy "1989" for their daughters. The first single from the album was tolerable, but the second single ("Blank Page" or something like that) is atrocious.
As for the 1974 show, I enjoy Jim Weatherly's "The Need to Be" much more than I did 40 years ago--thoughtful lyrics.

I just can't get into Taylor Swift. I tried and just can't get into it. Some of her songs are tolerable but it just seems like they all have the same theme, you broke my heart, I hate you...get over it already.
When did the Pointer Sisters go Country? I was unaware of this lol

I agree. Taylor is very talented but is not my cup of tea.
That said, "Shake It Off" was a classic example of an upbeat, fun, catchy summer pop song. And I really liked it

I agree. Taylor is very talented but is not my cup of tea. That said, "Shake It Off" was a classic example of an upbeat, fun, catchy summer pop song. And I really liked it Shake it Off is pretty catchy but it's been played to death, that song and Happy maybe the two most overplayed songs of 2014. I can't relate to any of TS's songs but I can obviously see why a 13 year old girl can. Heartbreak and boys seem to be the themes of her songs and that's what teenagers obsess about. At 34 I feel strange singing or relating to something like "15" or "22 but she seems like a sweet enough girl, good for her for accomplishing so much at such a young age. She's a decent enough songwriter. She reminds me of Carly Simon or Joni Mtchell. I'll stick to listening to 80s music. But back to AT Top 40 70s. Something about "Cats In The Cradle" gets me really emotional. Every time I hear that song I can't help but start bawling (I'm serious). Something about it just strikes an emotional chord in me.

In a perfect world, you'd hear "The Need To Be" in heavy rotation on an oldies/greatest hits station.
