OOPS! Just listening to this weekend's show from March 3, 1979 and heard Casey announce Suzi Quatro "...movin' way up from 30 to 37....". LOL! Surprised no one caught that. The song was actually moving from #37 to #30 that week. I also hate the production of AT40 during this period. Just about every song is either cut off or the AT40 jingles aren't even finished playing when they start the next song. This era of AT40 always seemed very sloppy to me. I thought they pretty much stopped doing that once the show was extended to 4 hours in late 1978. It reminds me of what they to Shadoe in the late years. Forcing him to talk over a music bed of a loopin intro or at the end of songs as you couldn't hear their completion without a voice over.. It was ridiculous. Casey and Shadoe were way beyond professionals and I could have listened to either of them read the phone book!

I am planning to check out WSQL tonight to see if they at least play 3 hours of 1979. Wondering though, only the AM signal is in DAR not 102.1 FM....right?

Ahh, it's nice to get a head start on the weekend with AT40 - The 70s on Thursday evenings.
Fair warning: the WSQL website suggests that the show won't be on next Thursday, as they'll instead be covering the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament.

Fair warning: the WSQL website suggests that the show won't be on next Thursday, as they'll instead be covering the Atlantic Coast Conference basketball tournament. Next Thursday, the quarter-finals of the ACC tournament will be played. I also went to the sports link on the website and it had a North Carolina Tar Heels schedule on it. They may be an affiliate of UNC and next Thursday's airing of AT40 might depend on what time UNC is playing as they could play in the afternoon next Thursday.

I know we said it time and time again but I like to thank Countdown Mike, AMFMDX and of course Ken Martin for continuing updating us on these historic shows. Also, thanks to dukelightning for the update on the Thursday night shows. Looking forward to Ken's #1 hits of the '80's and AT40's second show that should be aired in July hopefully.

Next week we will indeed get 3/11/1972: www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-11-72.pdfWhich means, we must get a "B" show! And that show last aired in 2012, and is from 3/12/1977: www.charismusicgroup.com/Cue%20Sheets/03-12-77.pdfApparently there's some kind of mix-up that happens in the 1977 show involving "I Wish", "Sam", and "Bite Your Lip"? In any event, the 1977 extras remain the same as in 2012: "I'm Your Boogie Man" - KC & The Sunshine Band "Lido Shuffle" - Boz Scaggs "Couldn't Get It Right" - Climax Blues Band As to the 1972 extras - there's clues this week, but it's a bit tricky. Only one of the three extras will be a future AT40 hit. Make of that what you will. Good luck!

Just noticed that "One Hundred Ways" by Quincy Jones & James Ingram skips - or is badly edited - at #29. About halfway thru the song on this week's 3/6/82 show. See if you notice it.
Also - something that after 40 years, I'm still unsure of. For several years, Casey pronounced ABBA with the "A" like 'cab'; on this show and many others, he changes it to "Ahh" when he says the band's name. Which is it?!

I just checked my copy from Premiere. I'm gonna fix this before it hits my airwaves today at 3 PM on WTOJ.

The 1977 mixup occurred when Billboard made some last minute chart changes affecting those three songs, which AT40 learned of while recording the show. Since there wasn't time to start over or make all the changes needed, Casey had to announce that three positions given earlier in the show were wrong and retroactively give listeners the right numbers.

Did they really censor the word "pregnant dogin' " in Billy Joel's "Big Shot"?
