For effect, play "Lightning Crashes" by Live over top of this post.....
This past week dealing with the companies I have dealt with almost makes me want to move to Pennsylvania and become Amish!
It all began on Monday, when I called Directv to try to schedule the move of our service to our new apartment. There website and commercials advertise "free" moving services, well their "free" service was costing me $50! Right away, I was pissed but there was nothing they were going to do about it. So, I relented and was going to pay the $50. Now, on to issue #2 of this phone call, when we move my intention was to buy an HDTV and have it installed into the new apartment and get an HD DVR. I was told, and it was noted on my account from previous conversations with Directv that I would get the DVR free, all I was responsible for was the shipping and handling. Well, when they go to process the DVR fee, they told me it would be an additional $50 on top of that. I slammed down the phone in disgust. I called and vented to my wife who in turn called Directv. She got an even worse rep who said it would be $299 for the DVR and he didn't know why someone told me I could get it free and that he wasn't going to honor the request. Now SHE is mad. But she calls back and talks to someone else and they did...but we still had to pay the $50 moving fee for the "free" move. Now, issue 3.....we are actually prepared, we know when we are moving and so we went ahead and decided to call and schedule the install for August 31. They, of course, don't go that far in advance. So, now I have to call back in mid-August to schedule the install.
We now move to the internet service, who I called Wednesday and they gave me a hard time about transferring the service. The rep actually asked me why I was scheduling it so far in advance in a condescending manner, like I had done something wrong. Anyway, that gets taken care of with what I thought was no problem................then..............
LIGHTNING CRASHES! Literally! It crashed right into the house we rent and proceeded to fry the modem, my wife's computer, my ethernet port on my computer, and mess up a TV. Before anyone says anything, I DID have everything except the TV hooked in to surge protectors.
We called Comcast and someone came out yesterday to get the one computer we had to work. It was then that I found out the ethernet port was fried, I did not know that before. So, he was unable to get the modem to work since he first needed to hardwire it to the computer. After a lengthly discussion with my wife, we went out and I used my mney I was saving for an HDTV to buy a new laptop. The dell laptop will have to be sent back to Dell and let them fix it again since it is under warranty. While that would have been fine with me, she is taking her masters degree program online and is in the middle of her final class. So, I went to Wal Mart and bought the Acer laptop I am typing on now. So all I have to do is come home, call Comcast, have them walk me through the steps to access the WEP Key inside the modem, set up the two laptops with the wireless connection, and everything would be fine, right?
Of course not! When I got home and called Comcast, that is when the rep and I tumbled to the realization the moving work order was put in with the wrong date and they have cut off my service already. After arguing last night and this morning, they will allegedly have someone out to fix the problem tomorrow. So, here I am at Panera Bread typing all of this to you.
The moral of this story, never call anyone to move any service until about 5 days before. People who are prepared ahead of time get screwed.
