On next weekend American Top 10, Casey will read the very first Long Distance Dedication, which was aired on American Top 40 on August 26, 1978, which was read 29 years ago today. As an added bonus, Casey will talk to the person who wrote that first LDD that was aired on AT40 back in 1978. Plus, the lady who was called "Desiree" will also appear on the show. When you hear the LDD's on the old AT40 shows, do you ever ask yourself?, Whatever happened to those people?. Well, next weekend shows should be an interesting one.

For anyone listening to this weekend's "AT40 the 70's" broadcast on KQLL out of Tulsa, I believe we got a preview of next weekend's AT10/AT20 broadcast. In between hours 1/2 and 2/3, instead of "Classic AT40 Extras" we were treated to Casey himself interviewing James and Desirée for about two minutes each. Casey also let us know the first LDD was coming up!
It was kind of ironic, because KQLL screwed up the final hour in which the first LDD was to be broadcast. Songs #9-3 were from the previous weekend 70's broadcast from 8-13-77! Oops! WWBB out of Providence did not play the interviews (for some reason, they do not play the extras despite their own Ed McMann being the announcer!) but did play the correct third hour, LDD included!

I heard the show today, and I got to say that it was a great show. Well, Casey did the interview with James and Desiree, the two people who were involved in the very 1st Long Distance Dedication that was aired on American Top 40 on August 26, 1978. I really enjoyed the interview with James and Desiree, and it was a classic. In fact, the interview wasn't the only highlights of the show. Here are some other things that happened this week:
1. Casey's tribute to the victims of the Virginia Tech shooting from last April.
2. Casey told the story of Cass Elliot's connection to the song "Venus".
3. Casey played the song, "Don't Want To Lose You" by Gloria Estefan, who by the way, celebrated her 50th birthday on Saturday.
4. Casey also told the origins of the Labor Day holiday.
But the highlight of course was the interview with James and Desiree, and as an added bonus, Casey even played that LDD from 1978. Another classic Casey moment.

I listened to both AT10 and AT20. When the original LDD was played, only one minute of Desiree was played. Why couldn't the whole song be played?

^Because, at this point, the song is very obscure. I'm surprised they played it at all.
