That would be great news, although there seems to be a bit of confusion right now. If the Top 2 aired just before 7am, that means the show airs 4a-7a....not exactly a desireable timeslot (but still a time slot). I can't imagine a 1 hour version of the show, unless WLTW is scoping it and just playing the Top 10, but I can't imagine any station would do that.
With Casey on in LA, it would be very nice to get Casey back in NYC. Hopefully it's true.

Well, it's true on all counts, unfortunately. Yes, Casey is back on in NYC with AT10. But no, it's not the same exact show you're hearing around the rest of the country. WLTW is running a "special" version of the show that features just the current week's top 10 and the long distance dedication segment. The show runs one hour, and the only thing I'm not sure about is whether it runs at 6am or 7am on Sunday mornings. Is anyone else having memories of AT40 on WPLJ in the mid-90s?

Scott,
You'll have to fill me in on what WPLJ did to AT40 in the 90's.
I'm surprised Premiere is allowing this -- other than the fact that it is the # 1 market in the country, and better to have this than no Casey at all.

WPLJ went to a HAC-ish format in the early 90s (before HAC was really big). They billed themselves as not playing "rap or hard stuff." So they started skipping songs on AT40 that fell into these categories. At first, they were literally just skipping the show ahead from Shadoe's song intro to Shadoe's song outro. Then ABC started cutting a custom version of the show for them which would replace the "offensive" songs with extras more in line with WPLJ's format.
As regards Premiere letting WLTW do what they're doing...keep in mind that the PD of WLTW is also an AC format head for Clear Channel overall. Nuf said.

The above noted WPLJ format is allegedly what WAPE in Jax did in 1993 when they also started screwing with Caseys Top 40.

Did they mess with CT40 in a similar way to what WPLJ did with AT40?

Here's the blurb about Casey on WLTW from David Hinckley's column in today's NY Daily News:
A LITE COUNTDOWN: Casey Kasem's weekly countdown of the top adult contemporary songs can now be heard Sunday mornings, 6-7, on WLTW (106.7 FM).
Lite-FM ordinarily doesn't carry syndicated shows, notes program director Jim Ryan, but because being in New York and on Lite is a good thing for any show, Kasem agreed to do a condensed one-hour version just for here.
Kasem's regular countdown is three hours, with anecdotes and the other things he is known for. On Lite, it pretty much just gets to the music.

Interesting. I guess if the station is extremely "music intensive" and does not normally run syndicated shows, I guess it is nice that Lite and Casey have worked out this deal.
Is Casey actually cutting seperate voicetracks for this show, or is it simply a scoped version of the regular AT10? Scott, you'll have to fill us in this Sunday (assuming you'll be waking up at 6am).

Did they mess with CT40 in a similar way to what WPLJ did with AT40? No, it sounds like WPLJ's was at least classy. WAPE would take songs out and replace them with previous weeks song in that number spot. An example since it was used so frequently, "Dont Take Away My Heaven" by Aaron Neville was probably #31 on the countdown for weeks because Dr Dre or some other "rap" song would be #31 and it would be removed. I remember the week Dont Take Away My Heaven left the chart, it was still played as #31. This was all done by WAPE, not Westwood One. There were problems with this however, 1.) when they first started this new format, they didn't keep the shows around so they would just skip the songs altogether. 2.) In the early days, the sound quality resembled that of a recording to a tape, and then dubbing the tape copy to another generation. It was low, muffled, and overall sounded like something a low budget station would do. 3.) One week in July of 1993, a certain ggggguuuueeeessssttttt hhhhooooossssstttttt was heard for the first time, so they obviously had nothing on him too....and when Dr. Dre's song was supposed to play, once again they aired Dont Take Away My Heaven, however since Casey didn't do the show that week, the number jingle was given and then the song just started...and when the song ended it faded out, and this is along the lines of what you hear...song is almost faded out and out of nowhere "31...for Casey Kasem, I'm David Perry and the countdown rolls on" all the while you still hear the end of Dre Day playing in the background. 4.) I remember one week they somehow got a copy of Casey's Countdown and edited in 3 of the top 4 of that show(including #1) because 5.) they had no set logic to the songs they were calling rap or hard rock. Regret was played, Plush was played, Def Leppard, Aerosmith, and nearly anything else considered Hard Rock was played, yet any song which contained anything resembling rap was cut out. So, when Looking Through Patient Eyes was #1, it was considered rap and thus NOT aired. Soon after, I gave up and started listening to the Daytona Beach station. So no, it was a horrible concept that WAPE attempted. I even remember the quality of the station seemed to tank at that point to. It almost sounded like something that someone was producing from their garage it was so terrible. Yet, that timeframe is looked back on with such fondness by the people who worked there. Whatever....thats Jacksonville for ya.

Does this station run Delilah out of curiosity or John Tesh? If so, the hypocrisy is so blatant.

No, they don't run either of these shows. Actually, I think both are on WHUD in Newburgh, NY though, which by and large reaches NYC (it's a 50,000 watter).

AT10 also airs on Long's Island's WLVG 96.1. I believe this is a recent addition as well. As far as I know, they air the entire show.
WTIC in Hartford also spent two years butchering Casey's Top 40 after they switched to HotAC in 1994. Just as the previous poster described, they would cut out "offensive" songs and only air Casey's intro. One in a while, even that would be cut out. Finally, they replaced the show with AT20 in 1996.

I know WALK/Long Island used to run AT10 on Saturday nights until the beginning of this year. I imagine WLVG picked it up once WALK dropped it.
