With all this talk of stations continuing to cancel AT10, what do you think would be the best option for the show?

I think the show should go back to its Top 20 format, with the spotlight. Since all the AT10 archive songs are being repeated, who needs them? They should have a spotlight of about seven or eight songs, one Long Distance Dedication per week, and then three or four AT10 Extra songs, since the stories tied to those can be quite interesting. The AT10 Archive songs can be eliminated altogether, because Casey just says how long ago they were popular, what year they're from, and the title and artist and we hear a song that we'll conceivably be hearing again within an hour of the broadcast. However, I think that the reason for the AT20 to AT10 switch is nothing but a copout. It does eliminate the "redundancy" of songs to a point, but mostly, it seems to me that they want Casey out of the countdown show business. Of course, I won't say that for sure, because I don't know that for sure. We'll just have to see if he's still counting them down a year from now. At this point, I doubt it.

Casey just signed a long-term contract with Premiere last year, so I doubt we'll be sans Casey in 2006. The question is what format will he be doing a countdown in...ie, will AT10 survive or be modified?

I have a feeling that it's going to be one of the two. If it remains AT10, stations will probably keep dropping it (even though some stations are picking it up). However, the damage is done, since the stations that dropped it probably won't renew their subscription to it.
Who knows, maybe Casey will jump on the country bandwagon. Or maybe he'll do one for the Urban or Rhythmic charts.
Or, he could start doing a AT20 Christian countdown. That would be neat, since there are no stations in my area running the show that uses the R&R Christian AC chart (Weekend 25, or something like that).

As Scott Lakefield mentions it above:
Casey just signed a NEW CONTRACT ( into the next decade ). Why should anybody plan to dump Casey ?
As far as I know the contract is for an AC and HAC show each week. If the current format of the AC show doesn't work, they will find another form to serve the AC outlets. There is no reason to put Casey into the country format.
If they would plan to drop Casey, it would be VERY EXPENSIVE for Clear Channel and Premiere. And I don't think AT10 is doing that bad. They had what they want to have with the change from AT20 AC: They have a show wich is customized for most Clear Channel Soft AC outlets. If the outlets change their music, AT10 will change again. That simple it is.

Just to follow up here...remember, I am really bored.....No one was saying Premiere will drop Casey Kasem, or at least I wasn't. When I listed to Ax the show, I meant Premiere end the show but keep AT20 with Casey, that is what was meant in the poll. We were referencing Casey's AT10 show being dropped by affiliates which has nothing to do with his Premiere contract. Hey, "you" can be under a long term contract for many things....like...umm...ooh, a popular country countdown show. But if all your affiliates drop the show like a bad habit when a certain "you" starts, you'll still get paid for it by the network!

ooh, a popular country countdown show. But if all your affiliates drop the show like a bad habit when a certain "you" starts, you'll still get paid for it by the network! Wrong. If you're under contract to one radio company, in most cases you can't work for another one. So if Bob Kingsley were under contract to ABC beyond the time they want him to host the show, he wouldn't be able to work elsewhere unless he agreed to not be paid by ABC. This is why you had a few months in 1988 where you didn't hear Casey on the radio...because he was getting paid by ABC to *NOT* count 'em down.

the "you" I was referring to was Kix Brooks, even if every affiliate drops his show when Bobs new show starts he would still get paid by ABC. This was all said in reference to Radioman seeming to think we were saying Casey was being axed by Premiere when we were just talking about radio stations dropping the show, not premiere.
