Since a thread was talked about the year end show, I was wondering about the Christmas show. I know Christmas is far off, but it made me wonder a few things.
First, all Clear Channel Lite rock stations switch to Chirstmas music format in mid November up to Christmas Day. In the past, those Clear Channel stations, would play the American Top 20 Christmas show from 2001 (with slight changes in 2003). Since the AC show is now called American Top 10, the Christmas show must change for 2004.
I'm hoping the Christmas show will be done this format. Casey will countdown the top ten Christmas songs. Then the other Christmas songs will be extras. This sounds like the regular format.
However, have Casey play different extras for each weeks Christmas show. Casey can still count down the same top ten Christmas shows in a row for each week. There are plently of Christmas songs out there. That way, the Christmas show won't be the same rerun for five straight weeks.
Any thoughts?

I think Casey Kasem should switch his AT10 show to a Xmas show for three or four weeks. In fact the majorty of AC station that don't go all Xmas do focus on those songs anyway.
He could do it a couple of ways.
Keep using the survey like he did the past couple of year but feature 10 at a time and play extras. Exeend the suspence over the weeks.
Focus on the current Xmas hits but only the Top 10. Mediabase can help with that.

Well it looks like their will be seveal weeks of Xmas programing on AT10.
Casey is now asking for Xmas memories and LDD's from the listeners.
Those letters that do get on the air should get a Xmas CD from Casey Kasem.
Casey brought this up on this weeks show.

He also mentioned a web site (at10.com) that does not exist.

Well it looks like the Clear Channel stations are starting to play the Christmas music already. WNIC in Detroit, and WVMX in Cinncinnatti started this tonight. So if you are expecting to hear Casey on those stations, you are out of luck. I don't think Casey has started his AT10 Christmas shows yet.

If you noticed by now, American Top 10 has started their Christmas shows now. All the Clear Channel Lite rock stations have switched to the all Christmas format.
Those Lite rock stations that are not owned by Clear Channel and have not changed to the Christmas format, aired the same AT10 Christmas show as the Clear Channel stations. Thus, it appears there will be no regular AT10 show until the year end countdown. Of course, it made no sense to produce an AT10 show, if very, very few stations aired it, since most lite rock stations flipped to the Christmas format and prempted the regular AT10.
So if those Lite rock station still playing Lite Rock, had to air Christmas music with Casey for three hours over the weekend.TEXT
It sounds like their will be a different Christmas show each week, so the same rerun won't air for five straight weeks. Of course, we'll know next week for sure.
However, there will be no countdown format for AT10. Casey will just play Christmas tunes and tell stories on some of the songs. Casey will also present Christmas memories stories and Christmas LDD.
I've noticed the "no nothin" occurs on the AT10 Christmas show a few times in between songs. Of course, if that happens Casey will say later in the show, the previous two songs. Also, Casey in between songs, will just say, "This is Casey with a speical American Top Ten Christmas." This show sounds like listening to FM radio at night in rural areas, when the station becomes automated without a deejay. However, this is better than no Casey during the Christmas season.
Any other thoughts on the AT10 Christmas show?

I enjoyed the Christmas show and was delighted when Casey said at the end of the show that there would be a different one next week. For the past two years, WLIT aired the same Christmas show week after week and it got old fast. This way, the shows will be fresh. I liked the way that they played 40 songs in a three-hour period (sort of like AT40 used to be in the 1970s). Since most Christmas songs have short playing times, I knew there would be more than 30, but I had no idea they would be able to squeeze 40 into three hours (and I'm SO glad they didn't loop songs to fill up time!) I imagine that a few songs from this one will be repeated somewhere along the line, but I'm sure that we'll hear other songs not played on this week's show eventually (such as "Do They Know It's Christmas" by Band Aid and "White Christmas" by Bing Crosby). I'm glad they decided to do this for the holidays. As MEF pointed out, it would be silly to produce a regular weekly show if it would be heard on so few stations that they could all be counted on one hand. And at least I'm not missing out on anything, like I was when AT20 produced weekly shows, which WLIT pre-empted with the same Christmas special each week.

I think Casey did a great job with the first of the his Xmas shows. I did not think their would be transtions in which Casey would not speak but for a show like this it not such a bad ideal. However Casey does backcell the songs so you got to give credit were credit is due. I do enjoy the Xmas memories that Casey read. With Casey doing just only two programs I think this give him time to focus on doing these Xmas shows on the AT10 version. It is also good to leave out the countdown out and just let the music flow and everyone can pick out their favorates.

I agree with you, Don. I always thought the old AT20 Christmas countdowns were way too random. They'd play rarely heard songs as part of the countdown, then very popular ones as extras. This new format is much nicer. I just hope I get to hear some of them, as one local station didn't air the show last week.

"The Little Drummer Boy" by Bing Crosby and David Bowie in the Top Ten? What radio station plays that? I hear "Step Into Christmas" by Elton John, "Little Saint Nick" by the Beach Boys and "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" by the Manheim Steamroller way more often! I don't think the Christmas countdowns were based on anything, it just looked like they were thrown together. The no-countdown format is much better. I hope it's that way throughout the Christmas season. Or maybe just have a countdown on the Christmas Day edition of the show, but even that's not necessary.

Its not necessary, the stories and letters make the show good, no need for a countdown. Oh yea don't forget Casey Kasem too.

That's right, we can't forget Casey Kasem. I can just picture him in a Santa Suit, playing those cool Christmas songs. Just a little over an hour away from tonight's WLIT broadcast of AT10. I wonder what songs will be played on this week's special. I sure hope not too many songs from last week's show are repeated this week, but I imagine there'll be a few.
