Okay, we've all experienced tuning in to a show such as AT40 only to find the station messed up and aired last week's show (or some equally frustating scenario). And I'm sure that's even more common now that stations are more automated. But what I heard yesterday defies explanation.
My local station aired last week's AT20 show in it's entirety -- with one exception. After the first commercial break, they aired about 20 seconds of the correct show, followed by a quick pause, and then returned to last week's show.
What could possibly cause this to happen? Without that one glitch, it would be easy to assume that they either loaded the wrong show by accident, or perhaps they simply never received the correct one. Any ideas?

I record a lot of shows online and it is mind boggling the number of mistakes that are made each week.
I often find it easiest to record the TRL Countdown on Sunday afternoons. Unfortunately, KLAL in Little Rock plays so many commercials that the show often has its final commercial break right around when the show is supposed to end. If the commercial ends after 5pm local time, instead of playing the #1 Song, we have some loser DJ starting his show--and no acknowledgement that they just skipped playing the #1 song of the week!
They aren't alone, Island 106 in Florida seems to have monkeys programming the computers. You never know when the countdown shows are going to begin or end, and they often skip the number one song as well if they've started the show over an hour late.
Someday, when satellite radio completely takes over the airwaves, we'll know why! It seems hard sometimes to find a radio station that is run professionally!

Working in radio now for 2 years, I have learned the sad reality is that it is mind numbingly easy to load shows. All it takes, at least in our automation, is 3 to 4 minutes of paying attention per show to ensure the correct tracks are loaded onto the correct automation files.
The *only* excuse for an issue is if a show is still delivered on CD and the delivery can not be made. But even then, the program director has information on how to call and obtain a new show which is then overnighted to the station (it happened a few times when we still got shows on CD). So, the moral of the story is that there really are no excuses given how easy it is to properly load a show!

The only reason I can think of is, perhaps the show for this week wasnt complete but of course they could of got a new one if they had thought ahead, but the fact that they aired the show from the week before, an then made the mistake of airing part of this weeks show, rather than continuing that mistake (if you can call it a mistake), the jock when back to the previous show so that the show didn't have any songs repeated? *shrug*
Talking about comercials: When AT40 Flashback was aired here in DC, the station (WASH FM) aired SOOO MANY commercials, that the show started somewhere around 6:25am, so that it could time out at aproximatly 10am. A 3 hour show. I kid you not, the breaks were 10 mins each. But yet, they air, and still air today, AT-10 correctly from 8-11am without the LONG breaks.

Well, I guess I'll be in on this now:
WODS/Oldies 103.3 out of Boston plays "AT40 - The 70's" from 11PM - 2AM Saturday/Sunday. I started listening on my way home from prom (#34 - The Osmonds' "One Bad Apple") and the show was running normally. I tuned back in around #29 ("Soul Power") when I got home and it was fine up to "Blue Money" at #23. I knew something was wrong when I heard the intro ID cut off, which proceeded into a Fifth Dimension song that wasn't ID'd. After playing up to #19 ("I Am, I Said"), they went into a NINE minute commercial break before playing #18. They ended up playing the rest of Hour 2's songs sans Casey intros and extras and the #22 song ("18" by Alice Cooper) 'til 1AM, which was cool, but how do you lose almost 75% of a show's second hour so quickly?
As far as I know, the third hour ran smoothly: I heard Casey's intro to #13, which was an Andy Williams song.

I think I'll add my 2 cents here-I listen to "American Top 10" on Magic 107.7 in Orlando,FL via the Internet-The station needs to have a chat with their board operator-He or she goes back into the program after what seems like a 10 minute commercial break-I always hear the middle portion of the current hit or classic song that Casey Kasem is playing-That's annoying to say the least.

Sounds like that may be a problem with their stream. Several years back I used to listen to AT40 Flashback via the internet, and the local ads would be replaced by streaming-only spots, which would often run too long. By the time they switched back to the over-the-air feed, the next segment of the show was already well underway.
