To spt72,
On the Shamus M'Cool thread about local charting songs that didn't make the HOT 100 and such, (I thought I'd start a new thread).
Have you seen any Cash Box or Record World charts? It's fun to see what songs made their TOP 100's and didn't make BB's.
Cash Box went to 1996, and Record World only went to early 1982. However there's a lot of good songs that made their National Top 100 that didn't make BB's (some made bubbling under though).
While I have the Cash Box charts (all of them can be found on a site by Randy Price, Just do a search on Cash Box Randy Price and you'll find them). The Record World ones I just have a list of them with their peak postions.
One of the most intriguing ones was in 1992, a song called "The Letter" by Wayne Newton hit #1 on the Cash Box top 100, and Country charts., but never made ANY BB chart? very strange.
Also in 1992 a song called "3 Strange Days" by School Of Fish (which did make BB's Rock Tracks), made the top 40 of the CB Top 100. It never made the BB HOT 100 or their top 75 Airplay chart. The song wasn't available on a cassette single (the standard configuration in '92), but was on a commercial CD single. Thus should've been eligible for the HOT 100, even if it wasn't you think it'd show up on the Airplay chart.
Let me know if there's any songs you're wondering about, and check out the Cash box chart.
In the 80s for instance, 1980 through 1983 have a lot of different titles, 1984 has none (except a Christmas song that charted three years in a row called "Kid Santa Claus" by Patsy, 1985 has about three, 1986 has a few, 1987 there's only one I could find (The Border by Mr. Mister), 1988 and 1989 have about ten each)
