Hope it doesn't mean the end of AT40 on XM...

Before XM and Sirius can merge, they have to get clearance from the FCC and probably other gov't agencies. While the Bush Administration may feel differently, most Federal governments would be skeptical about creating a monopoly, which is what would be happening since XM and Sirius are the only Satellite radio broadcasting companies in the US.
So until (and if) this happens, there isn't going to be a merger. Both Sirius and XM have countdown shows (Sirius has Nina Blackwood for the 80s and the 70s also has a show) and supposing that they choose to keep a countdown show, they'd probably want AT40 since there are probably more fans of Casey than there are of Blackwood and whoever does the 70s countdown on Sirius.
Of course they could get out of the countdown business altogether and that would be bad. But that hasn't happened yet and until (and if) it does, then we can get upset.

Like I said on another board, I don't think the FCC or FTC is going to raise a lot of objections to this. When Directv and Dish were not allowed to merge a few years back there was a whole different reasoning. They pretty much offered the same programming, and in places where you could not pick up any broadcast affiliates and there was no cable provider, you were going to be stuck with one provider and it left you at the mercy of them. No matter where you live, you can usually pick up 10-20 broadcast radio channels. So, this isn't a "monopoly" if the merger goes through.

It looks like the XM CEO will be the number one guy in the company, so hopefully that means that the XM stations will get some preference where there are overlapping stations...or maybe to placate the FCC, they keep some of the special features from each station, so maybe we'll end up with more countdown shows...who knows...these things usually take at least 6-12 months to happen, so we have lots of time to speculate!
